I would not respond with "Get away, grammatical felon! Speak properly or perish!".

Grammar and spelling matter. So do other things, like honesty, and love, courage.

Perfect!   Sometimes people here really do respond like you've spit in their milk if you don't behave (im)properly haughty.
I think everyone should make self understandable, but beyond that, it's not that serious.   M

I once worked for a large hospital in the Education Department.  Nurses who administer medications must take a test before being allowed to give meds in this hospital and they must take the test annually.  Passing score for this test is 100%.  If they do not answer all the questions correctly, they are remediated on the ones they missed until the Educator is convinced they understand why their answer was incorrect and why the correct answer is correct.  The test is open book.  They are allowed to use books, Medex, (an online drug reference), they are allowed to use their study guide.  They are allowed to use a calculator.  The reason for this is that it is much more important to know that these people know how to find the answer they need, rather than relying on their memory and perhaps making a medication error which could prove fatal for the patient.

How does this relate to this post?  Even if you are not the best speller or suck at grammar, resources are available to you to help you.  I personally suck at math.  Really, hugely suck at math.  But, if I have to help with homework or use a formula I can't remember, I will go search it out, rather than guessing.  I may not be a mathmetician, but I can find out how to do what I need to do.  I may not get the correct answer even then, but I will have put forth the effort.

Grammar Nazi's will come crawling out of the woodwork on any board or email group. If that is the only thing they have to contribute to a thread then that is fairly weak especially if they use it as a response when they have been outdone by someone else and that is their only recourse.

Bingo!   <I knew we'd eventually agree on something>

Apparently it's not exactly your forte either,  honey.

I call them like I see them.  If you take offense, that's your business.

Oh and about the attacking people for spelling on CM.  Ive seen it in at least 3 threads this week.  If its of interest to you, then do more reading on the threads.  You'll find its quite rampant.

I never said people don't attack other people for spelling.  I've seen that happen frequently.  I said I have yet to see it happen because the poor speller had a better point and the attacker was attacking because they didn't have one.  Like I said, I'll be happy to admit I'm wrong, but I'm not going to dig through posts to prove your point.  If you'd like to prove me wrong, feel free.  As soon as you do I'll admit my error.  If it doesn't matter enough to dig around for them, let's agree to disagree.

Math and I don't get along very well either. You know what I use to do math at home with? A calculator I bought at the checkout at Wal-Mart in 1986 for $1.00. I know that isn't terribly entertaining, but I do so love my calculator, but figured it wasn't worth starting a whole thread over LOL.

Do the best you can with the grammar and spelling and continually strive for improvement.

As far as the title of your thread:  A few years back, Newt Gingrich said in an interview on the McNeil-Lehrer news hour {Defending the Contract with America} '' Those who tow the middle road will always be held in the highest esteem. ''

Bullshit - Not in my book

 My favorite poster here is a guy {He hasn't posted since back in January} who never wrote for the audience and instead always wrote {with the courage of a hundred} from the soul and spoke his mind, no matter how controversial or who he upset.{and believe me... he upset more than a few}

So.... while my advice is to always stay away from personal attacks, that doesn't mean you can't speak your mind and convey your true feelings. Too many view their short existence as popularity contest. Remember...  if you can’t be true to thyself, you won’t be true with anyone.

That guy was interesting when he took his Zoloft in the morning, and a boor when he didn't.

My original post on this issue wasnt directed at you.  Perhaps I should have hit the fast reply thingie.  I havent a clue as to why you have taken such a defensive attitude with me personally.  I stated my pet peave in direct reference to the OP's commentary.  Others have, in essence, said the same thing. Others on the other hand,  share *your* view.  No big deal.  This isnt a personal issue between you and I and I wont be goaded into such.  End of story.

This is annoying the hell out of me.  Because I prefer that posters use proper grammar and spell words correctly, I am a grammar Nazi?  I certainly don't attack any6ne for it, but I do notice it.  Some people are good spellers (like me)...some aren't.  But everyone can use spellcheck.
