I am completely new at everything, and very much want to learn.
My problem is I don't particularly know how I should get my foot in the door.

Plus I want to be able to experience different bdsm experiences that I am interested in, to find what is right for me.

I know there are munches and other social events that I can go to, and I'm investigating that. I think this would possibaly be a good start.
I have also have found some skillshare events I am interested in, but I'm not sure I would be comfortable with more than watching at those. Still you never know!
I'm found that you can have a mentor in the BDSM world, which I think would be wonderful for me, but have no clue how to find one.
I've found there are professionals who offer introduction to BDSM sessions and am a little intrigued by those too, but that would definitely be my last choice

Basically I am wondering If there are any other options out there. Plus if anyone has any experience with any of these, did you find it worthwhile?

You're honest and cute and female. Any munch group would be happy to take you under their wing and try to help you out. Admittedly, I know nothing about your geography, but if there is a munch just go. Even alone, just go. You'll be surprised how quickly they open their arms.

Also, I like your hair short.

Learn at your own pace, don't freak yourself out. You should never feel pressured to join in at skillshare events before you're ready to make the jump.

Go to the munches and social gatherings and make friends, then find a mentor from among those friends. Be careful about acquiring "mentors" over the net as there are those who would exploit newbies under the guise of mentoring.

There should be a good amount of opportunities in your local community to learn without going to pro sessions, but there's no shame in that either, if that's your preference.

Entering the lifestyle is a deeply personal journey, so what works for someone else may not work for you. THe best thing to do is just be natural and honest and be open about new experiences and opportunities, but never forget to stay safe!

I had a look at your location. We'll just have to go with general advice.

Yes, munches are a great place to start. If nothing else, that is the way to get invited to other parties and events. It is very easy for a female to find people who will teach skills. If you are not comfortable with doing things hands on at first in front of other people, you can always attend learning classes and try the lessons out with somebody at home or ask the person teaching if they would be willing to do a private meet with you and a friend so you can learn more.

When I started learning topping skills, I didn't learn from just one person. I looked for the person who was the best at whatever skill I wanted to learn and asked them to teach Me. Wax, fire, flourentine flogging, needles, sounds, cutting, etc, etc. I went to as many classes as I could, asked for private instruction, and read all of the background research that I could get on the subject they were teaching Me.

It can take some time if you have varied interests (like Me) and you still have to put a good amount of time into it, but you can learn just about anything from the folks out there in the community.

First off, I know nothing really about Australian stuff, so my writing below is based on how things work in the US and hopefully Australia will be similar or identical.

I'd recommend starting off with a munch. Here's a group of folks in the central NSW: NSW group. Read through it and get to "know" a few people you think you'd like. Contact them and say hello. Get their takes on which munches/events are worthwhile and see if they're planning to attend.

Ideally, you'll be able to attend with folks you feel comfortable with.

Wow, thankyou everyone for your helpful responses. I am reading as much as I can to learn as much as I can and try to slow down. It's hard because I am so excited to be finally taking these steps

Special thanks to DarkSteven for finding that group for me. I was already on fetlife, but I was hopeless at navigating it, so ignored it mostly. Now I have joined the group and they are very helpful and informative. Plus they do munches every month *happy dance* so I have a starting place lol.

Also thanks for the comment about my hair BambiBoi, I really like it short too, but I get some strange looks around here. That is, when people aren't assumeing that I'm a guy lol!
