I now have 6mm natural Hemp rope for sale from 50p per metre (that's about 25c per foot) on my site. Available in standard 7.5m (25ft) lengths, finished with single knots, individually or sets of five or ten ropes. See Rope Sales.
The Jute is a lovely honey colour and lighter than the hemp. Since each ply is made of many smaller twists, the rope has wonderful definition and leaves beautiful clear marks. It is my personal favourite and I now use it in preference to Japanese hemp because of its durability, low cost and looks. It can be used as is or treated for a slightly improved feel.
Hemp, I believe, is of European origin. It is denser and not as light as the Japanese variant. It is thus more durable and less likely to 'un-twist' when kinked. Wonderful, evocative smell. This rope is transformed by treatment or, at least 'burning-off', see Care for instructions.
