they are currently exempt up to a certain point, and taxed at a low rate over that up to a certain amount.

A flat tax is regressive.

Of course it is, but it would ensure that everyone paid something.

Everyone should (IMHO).

I'm sure there could be any number of deducts on the annual statement...here's the question though.....

How do you get "there"?

How do you get to a place where everyone pays an "appropriate" share? Shouldn't everyone pay an appropriate share? Set aside SSI and unemployment, L&I coverage.....shouldn't everyone pay something?

$1.00?

30 years ago the "wealthy" paid 20% of the taxes....today they pay nearly 50% (depending on how you define "wealthy").

The wealthy are paying more....now more so than (I'm sorry, I'm too lazy to do the research but....it's not uncommon news)....a very long time.

It's not news that those with the highest wealth are paying the highest proportion (%) of our taxes.

(And yeah, I get it...Romney's edict of getting the wealthy to pay an even smaller % of the tax is stoooopit.....I get it).

So what's the solution?

Tax the wealthy even more? So they're gonna pay 92% of the total tax take as opposed to (I'm guessing) 50+%?

Why shouldn't everyone pay something?

What's wrong with that?

Shouldn't everyone be a participant....even if only $1.00?

(I don't know...it just seems to me that everyone should be involved somehow in the {federal tax} game.....it just seems right to me).

May I just interject one thing? there is NO republican Lilly Ledbetter.

Imagine that, there isn't one in the White House either...

Ah, the red herring... okay, and without links to out of country articles, please tell us all you know about the GS pay scale and how it is employed by the white house. And WHO in fact sets these pay levels.
Then perhaps you can explain this curious preoccupation a republican has with women's concerns when by their own report republican women don't even care if they have female plumbing?
When I hear this so-called concern on the part of republican "men", I can't help thinking of -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVRV0Nww8R4

We have that and everyone bitches about it but, more importantly....it ain't enough to pay the current (or the last 40 years) bills.

Yeah....I do.

He works for me.

AND....he just got a zero down mortgage through some kind of agricultural loan thing at 3.50%, no points.

And...he got back 4k last year from Uncle Sam. (He paid 3K).

I don't make 30K so I can't tell you how or why....maybe Hib can 'splain it.

Talk to your Congressman.

Musicmystery -> RE: An understanding of political lies. (9/5/2012 7:15:16 PM)

If you mean specifically income taxes, that's different from zero taxes.

No argument there.

All these idjits that argue that "they're gonna raise taxes" (reversal of Bush tax cuts)....it ain't a tax increase....it's a rescission of the tax reduction that occurred when Buffett, Gates and others pleaded with the govt. not to do it because they didn't need it or want it.

I dont care what he thought I meant. I asked him a specific question.

Read up. I am really sick of how many are uninformed on these issues.

Uninformed or just plain stupid Tazzy. It should be obvious governments of any stripe cant just pluck money from thin air.

Has Romney explained how he will increase military spending, without laying of public workers while at the same time reducing taxes.

If he pulls of that shit, he can fill in my lottery tickets for me.

tazzygirl -> RE: An understanding of political lies. (9/6/2012 12:21:32 PM)

Romney/Ryan simply say.. Trust us. They havent explained how the boost in military will be paid for by tax cuts. Should be an interesting debate.
