Here's what I said earlier. (A lot earlier)
Zim unfortunately appeared to use a gun for the same reason a lot of other folks use one. To make them feel like they actually had testicles.
In any situation where you carry a weapon, you MUST be prepared at all times to use it.
If you are prepared to use it, you do not allow another person to approach within arms reach else your advantage is gone and said weapon is likely to be stuck into your own gullet..
Zimmerman was not prepared to do anything more than sit his butt in his vehicle and call the police while trying to keep a visual on at least the area where someone went.(which is what he should have done and what he no doubt wishes he had done but hind sight is 20/20)
He had the poor judgement to pursue without being prepared.
He allowed Martin to get within arms length with the weapon still in the holster and therefore useless because he was stupid and unprepared.
Seriously, if a weapon gets pulled when Martin is 3 meters or more away, 99.999% of the time he will NOT attack. (I am speaking from a personal experrience with firearms and potential robbers).
