Are you a type 1 diabetic? Do you test your A1C on a regular basis?

MODS PLEASE DO NOT PULL THIS

My 9 year old was at the diabetic cliniic Tuesday, first time since May, when her A1C number was 8.0% She was 7.5%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next visit in six months, and a pump by the end od grade four!!.,

Glycaemic control can be harder for children, because their energy needs in and energy expenditure are slightly different to adults.

The pump will probably be a good thing because it will allow a lot more tweaking throughout the day.

Yes, children exercise hard - it's just their nature, it's called playing. Exercise, esp hard exercise, can cause sugar dips. eating the kinds of things that kids like to eat can cause sugar spikes. I'm glad your child's numbers are improving, good for her! I hope they continue that way.

yourdarkdesire -> RE: Diabetes and Bdsm (9/30/2012 10:35:37 AM)

Thanks ladies.

Tsatske, my girl was diagnosed at age 3 1/2 years. She doesn't eat junk food. She has never tasted pop. Halloween time she goes out like everyone else. Stuff she doesn't like goes to her brother. Otherwise, she gets one to two pieces a day, built into a meal or a snack. Trust me, I know every single piece of food that goes into that child's mouth!

littlewonder -> RE: Diabetes and Bdsm (9/30/2012 12:02:30 PM)

I'm always concerned with getting diabetes because it's been something that runs in my family. I have to remind myself though that they got it from not taking care of their health and diet. They all came from a culture that eats lard and massive amounts of fat. My uncle had a heart attack a few years ago and that's when he found out he was diabetic. He was a BIG man but the doctors told him either lose the weight or he'd be dead by the end of the month from diabetes. Even after he shed all the pounds he still was diabetic and died from it a couple years ago.

I'm glad you are careful with your child and keep a vigilante eye.

Here's the natural cure for both type 1 and type diabetes. The documentary is almost two hours long but if you have diabetes you'd be a complete idiot to not watch it over and over again until the message sinks in.

Get off all your drugs and the insulin too! You'll add 20 healthy years to your life (and your erections will improve too!)

Dude, I see that you are passionate about sugar related issues. But the OP was talking about her nine-year-old daughter. Why would she take the opinion of some guy online she doesn't know vs her daughter's own medical practitioners. Also I strongly suspect the quality of erections is not an issue here.

There is no cure for type 1 diabetes. It's seriously irresponsible to be spreading stuff like this.

yourdarkdesire -> RE: Diabetes and Bdsm (11/25/2012 11:10:01 PM)

Thank you Athena. I also happen to be a nurse, so completely discounted his posted. But that doesn't stop my inner voice saying "I wish...".

When I say my doc in August, she diagnosed me with type 2 and put me on meds. I saw her last week, and my blood work was so good she said I have reverted to a pre diabetic state. The 39 lbs I have lost probably helped. :-)

On the kidlet side, I went to a pump inservice in October and got a good look at the Omni-Pod. It is the first tubeless insulin pump. It has been available in Australia for some time, and has just recently come to North America. Good news from my provincial government regarding coverage. Starting in July 2013, the province will cover anything left over after we access our insuance plan. Hubby's work plan covers $3,000 every five years. The Omni-Pid is $6,300.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: Diabetes and Bdsm (11/26/2012 2:47:57 AM)

Wow well done on your own treatment and that's great news about the omni-pod. My husband is type 1 and has considered switching to a pump but I think after years of practice with injecting he doesn't fancy adjusting.

I didn't for one minute think you'd read this guy's post and change your mind on anything, but I have a pet hate about misinformation especially about something as serious as treating a child's fatal-if-ignored illness.

You offer up a youtube video from a guy selling a book "There is a cure for Diabetes".

Dont do that. Its incredibly irresponsible. Someone just MIGHT believe you and die as a result.

Either that or you'll be dead in a year or so as steadily building levels of undigested sugar block capillaries and eventually cause enough damage to fuck up something you can't survive without.

AthenaSurrenders -> RE: Diabetes and Bdsm (11/26/2012 7:34:55 AM)

Exactly. We may not have cured diabetes, but the treatment has progressed to the point where diabetics can live a normal life. Why on earth would you want to give that up for a lingering death? Not a nice way to go.

Moonhead -> RE: Diabetes and Bdsm (11/26/2012 7:43:18 AM)

Particularly if it blinds you or gives your neuropathy of some sort before your kidneys shut down.

Alberta has a much better insurance plan and greater & wider coverage than some other provinces.. there was a scientist in BC that moved to Alberta specifically cuz Alberta covered a controversial & very expensive treatment for his kid's autism, a treatment that BC would not cover.. Even with a universal national heath plan, there are differences between provinces.. You are lucky to live there well,.. except fer all that snow & ice.. [:D]

Close & almost happened here. Have been told was hypoglycemic most of my life & have always tried to be mindful of sugar & regular small meals...which comes with a persistant weight downside. This last year blood results showed me pre-diabetic & scared me. Was already feeling terrible & after years of doctors telling me "the fatigue is all in your head have a prozac & a high wheat diet" FINALLY found a functional medicine doc that explained 90% of my issues were from wheat & years of poison build up in my system.

This is what's so frightening about obamacare. Letters are already starting to go out telling the elderly their illness is no longer covered but end of life hospice care is...nice huh?

That's terrible. Does it look like that's caused you permanent damage, or is it coming under control now that it's finally being treated properly?

Do you have a citation for that or did you read about it in an email that started Fwd: Fwd: Fwd: Fwd?

tazzygirl -> RE: Diabetes and Bdsm (11/26/2012 4:12:08 PM)

I was curious about that myself.

DreamyLadySnow -> RE: Diabetes and Bdsm (11/26/2012 8:03:15 PM)

tj444 the bad news is that a lot of autism treatment and help has been cut...perhaps because of the increased demand from people moving there for it? A lot have. I wish the provinces were a little more together on their coverage.
darkdesire congratulations on the improvements in your own health. I'm working on changing my life to prevent type 2 diabetes. It's hard to break decades of bad habits. Your daughter sounds like she is off to a terrific start.
