I don't fear leaving my house or anything, but I do think I may have a mild form of emetophobia. Any time someone complains of stomach upset, I ask if they're also experiencing chills and diarrhea hoping to rule out exposure to a stomach virus. If I know I've been exposed, I'm afraid to eat for a couple of days. If someone in my household throws up, I hide in my bedroom with a can of lysol. The fear started when I was young. I used to get the stomach virus so bad I'd puke 8-10 different times. It was terrifying because all the gagging interfered with breathing and I felt like I was suffocating. As an adult, the effects of the stomach virus are less severe but I can't seem to completely rid myself of the fear. I'll be so glad when they come up with a vaccine. According to what I read, this phobia is fairly common. Does anyone here have similar issues?

I am one of those people who pretty much would rather die than vomit.

I don't think your experience with the stomach virus as a kid is at all uncommon. I seem to recall it being about the same for me.

I have somewhat become less phobic/more tolerant of the need to puke in the last few years.
2 reasons- menstrual migraines (migraines on steroids) and my throwing up became quite predictable: the first weekend of every month (until I went on a migraine preventative).
The second thing was earlier this year my gallbladder was evicted on emergency order.
I was in a LOT of pain and very nauseous.
Right before surgery I began violently vomiting with Linda Blair flair in pretty public venues.
And [my] Master was there for every glorious moment... and His being there helped immeasurably in terms of proving me with emotional comforting.

Nah no problems with it around here. It's just a part of the bodily functions. I will say however, that when I'm ill, Master will do his best to stay away from me because of his work and not being able to take the time off for illness. But then he also feels guilty because he said he should be here to take care of me which I think is sweet but I would rather him not be ill from me. Sometimes I even have to convince him that I'm not contagious...its just allergies or something like that.

I wouldn't say I'm phobic of it, but if I feel bad enough that I think I well and truly will be throwing up at any moment, I start to get worried because I know it's something serious and I'll be headed to the hospital if I do start. Since I've been old enough to remember, I've only had four episodes of vomiting in my life. When I start, I can't stop and there's almost no pause, just continuous retching that quickly makes me dehydrated and sore and which will not stop on its own. Each of those four times I started vomiting, I wound up in the hospital on intravenous antiemetics to make it stop (not to mention fluids, because each time I've wound up severely dehydrated in short order). The last time was ten years ago and it was awful. I was throwing up bile and my abdomen was sore for days from the severe retching. Not to mention the $5000 bill for the trip to the ER...

I hate vomiting because it comes out of my nose as well as my mouth. You can brush your teeth/tongue after throwing up, but not your nasal cavity. I don't know if I'd say I have a fear of it, but I do have an intense/extreme dislike for it.

I think your dislike for it seems pretty normal. After all, really, who is completely okay with not vomiting? It means you are unwell and being unwell is awful.

I can't say I like vomiting, although I did twice after my last hangover and I never felt so relieved to.

There are many types of viral infections (rotavirus, astrovirus, adenovirus, sapovirus, norovirus...) that can cause gastroenteritis which is often called a "stomach virus" or "stomach flu" and is characterized by vomiting and watery diarrhea. According to the CDC, there are currently vaccines for two specific rotaviruses that can cause viral gastroenteritis and they're given to infants in the first year with other vaccines.

While it certainly sucks to get VG as an adult, the main danger is from dehydration which is easily treated. I wouldn't expect any adult vaccines any time soon.

I must admit, in the last few years, I've acquired a odd fear regarding vomiting. It only happens just before I actually vomit. The fear is around aspiration with possible death resulting. Intellectually, I know the odds of aspirating enough vomitus to be dangerous is very unlikely to occur, nevertheless, that fear rears its ugly head each time. Once I'm in full vomiting mode, it passes. It's just getting over that initial hump. Fortunately, I am rarely ill enough to vomit, and if I do, it is more likely due to food poisoning.

add me to the crowd of "I'll do anything to keep from puking".... I've been around puking patients all the time without a problem, but if I have to throw up, I'll fight it til the bitter end. I actually had Salmonella once (thanksgiving too. gotta love the in-laws) and it was 3 days of almost non-stop vomiting.. it was horrid.

Norovirus is the pits--I will be first in line when that vaccine comes out. Norovirus--often referred to as "WVS: winter vomiting syndrome"

edited to add: I've read a few threads here from folks who have a vomiting fetish. Can't say I understand it...but to those folks: when you find that special someone who shares your fetish....hang onto them. They are a keeper!

On a related note, my Dom playmate grappled me yesterday after a huge sushi dinner and wine and I immediatly had to excuse myself and vomit. First time playing, totally embarrassing...but strangely, felt incredibly comfortable. I must have a fine partner. (it wasn't even humiliating, just human nature - playing and being tossed about on a full stomach!)

I HATE throwing up!!!! I would almost rather do anything else. I fight it with everything inside of me. Sometimes *sigh* it's unavoidable. I cry like a baby and want my mommy LOL
