LadyPact:

I still think about what happened every day. I haven't forgiven myself. I'm trying to move on, but I haven't forgiven myself. What I wouldn't do to take it all back.

I think you all are entitled to whatever resentment you feel. You and a number of others. Fuck this "being strong" shit. Get mad. Scream, Jump up and down, rant. You've earned it. This, we'll have a healing thread, and then we'll sweep it under the rug and pretend it never happened... is just bullshit. What happened is a big deal. It matters, and whoever thinks people shouldn't let what happens on the internet affect them never had a human emotion in their life. It affects me, and I'm sure it affects you. That's just evidence that we are human beings.

I'm so sorry.

Pam

LadyPact -> RE: Thoughts on moderation (10/1/2012 4:25:45 AM)

I don't think about it every day, pam. Times like this, I do.

I agree. It was a resentment...... And I looked away.

I carried My own potato. Probably several.

I have no one to blame for that but Myself.

In these last few days, I have been disappointed. Not only in others, but also in Myself.

I do not know how to heal the rift. Not here. Not in them. Not in Me.

A bridge can not be built from one side alone.

yourdarkdesire -> RE: Thoughts on moderation (10/1/2012 5:38:30 AM)

Hugs LP and Pam, just because they seem to need it.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Thoughts on moderation (10/1/2012 6:47:36 AM)

I really wasn't affected by the Bob debacle, except to applaud his creativity. I know a lot of people took it very personally, and I wish that I could help.

But you can. The next time you see something fishy around here say something. I will.

Pam

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Thoughts on moderation (10/1/2012 7:40:02 AM)

I do, Pam. My reputation as a shitkicker is manifest daily.

What I can't control is other people's responses. The latest batch of threads on moderation should tell you how much good complaining is. Other people with greater skill and greater interest will have to deal with finding proof of "fishyness".

I am sorry Pam but that is total bullshit!

The internet is utterly jam packed with 'fishy'. It is not my, your, LadyHib's, or even the site owners and their minions, responsibility to take time to investigate who and/or what is 'fishy' then go running to the playground monitor screaming "I'm tellingggggggggggggggggggggg!!!!"

It IS your, my, LadyHib's and every other human being that uses the internet,'s responsibility to determine for THEMSELVES what is bogus bullshit for them PERSONALLY.

The reason I say this.......do you have ANY idea the level of bullshit that really goes on online and the time, resources, and effort that would go into policing what is 'real and twue'? Not to mention, who is going to define 'fishy'?

Let's say that more than one ID per household is fishy. What about someone like KoM, or LadyP, or any number of multiple user households. How are you going to determine which of the multiple user households is 'fishy' and which is legit?

My opinion, for whatever negative coin it is worth........each individual using the net needs to take personal responsibility. Not only for how they themselves project and use the net but also how much importance they put in what is on here.

If you place uber importance in you being you, then conduct yourself accordingly. If you place uber importance on me being me, then you take the risk of me not being who and what I say I am. If you don't like the reality OR your perception of that reality, then walk away from it or simply shut up and suck it up.

The internet isn't a preschool play room and it cannot be babysat like it is one. There are real live villians playing on here and there is literally no way that can be fully monitored. To do so only removes freedoms from those that are not villians.

Personally, I see on this site a knee jerk reaction to a bunch of whiney asses that want babysat. They want to absolve themselves from personal responsibility and toss it in someone else's lap. That's bullshit. I don't care that people get their poor wittle feelings hurt when someone turns out to not be what they pretended to be via the net. If they are that sensitive then perhaps they need to get off the net.

Edited to add.........I've seen posters on this site, that would pass every 'there is something fishy' filter, that were very likely far more dangerous than any mental whackjob pretending to be a bunch of college aged lesbians. Nut cases like him would be the least of my concerns. Unless he was creating those profiles to actually lure people into a dangerous real life situation. Gumbas making up online RPG fantasy shit shouldn't even be on the radar.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Thoughts on moderation (10/1/2012 8:03:59 AM)

Agreeing with LaT. For ME, Bob and company were a fun game. And I interacted in CMail with ALL the girls. Bob always liked me for some reason, and I had fun chatting with each of them about whatever. Heather always gave me useful software tips, for instance. Did their stories sound goofy? Well, sure. But yanno? I have a friend whose REAL LIFE story of going from the rez to the streets to the army to being a successful artist is fucking incredible, the stuff of telenovelas. Who am I to say that one story has more or less credence?

Bob is really not an issue for me. There are people on the boards whose real life escapades would make you change your passwords and check your locks. It chokes me when they post--which is why they're on hide. It's a free internet though, and so far as I can tell, being a fucking sociopath is not grounds for eviction from the boards. Whoops!!

Looking back over the past seven years, I can tell you that every exodus of board users has happened over moderation issues. Most people who thought that the Bob episode was untenable left already and haven't come back. It really is a wacky pendulum that we can ride out or not. My biggest complaint has been that there is no consistency. Yay Calvinball! I made my issues known, that's all I can do. I am not going to whine over every bit of potential violation. I don't go through life looking to be offended, and a stranger on the internet doesn't have the ability to personally hurt me anyway.

LaTigresse -> RE: Thoughts on moderation (10/1/2012 8:12:05 AM)

In my mind, the people that go whining to the mods because they got their wittle feelings hurt that some random stranger on the net said something mean.........says more that is negative about the whiner than the person/s they are whining about.

I was suspicious about a 20 something female poster who came on in April of this year and shortly afterwards acquired a teenage female sub, reported my suspicions to a mod, and neither of them have posted since.

Agreed. However, the difference between flat out lying and telling the truth is not a "personal" one.

If each poster acted on their own as a policeman, then not much time, not much effort, and not many resources.

Like I said, each poster.

I wasn't referring to the fishiness of posters.

Shoot, there's a dude in Politics who must create more tickets based on that than all of us combined.

LaTigresse -> RE: Thoughts on moderation (10/1/2012 8:17:08 AM)

Again..........you are advocating a nanny state that, to me, would turn the site into nothing more interesting than a bunch of whiny tattle tells.

Any poster that would behave in that manner is not a person I would give the time of day to. It's childish and dangerous. Petty. Immature. Stinking of vigillante bullshit.

From what little I've seen, I think there are several 'dudes' that do a lot of whining. It's pathetic and disgusting.

So... if each of us is now Internet Police, what? We each get to filter every post based on our own set of experiences---and paranoias. Yay.

Not buying it. Mainly, I am not buying it because I just don't see that much in the way of fishiness. If I see a TOS violation, I start a ticket. If I see a pic on the other side, I report it. If it's not a TOS violation, it's not on me to vet every post I read. Starting a troll post is still allowed here, and everyone can dogpile on it as long as they don't attack the poster.

We don't know who is telling the truth around here.

Hi, I'm Francine, I'm a CPA. Hi, I'm Francine, I'm a civil engineer. Hi, I'm Francine, I'm a ballet teacher. Hi, I'm Francine, I'm a housewife. Hi, I'm Francine, I'm on the city council of my town.

Which of the above are true?
