No You do not have to do that , they will put little bandaids with metal balls on your nipples and usually they dont say a word. I had one elderly woman tech that actually gave me a huge compliment on mine. She said she had always admired the courage it took to get them pierced.
Do not feel strange about your piercings, it is your choice and no matter what they say, you will still get an accurate mamogram reading with your rings in.

Come to think of it, you are right! They do put little metal things on my nipples at the mammo, and when I asked why, she said "So the radiologist can identify the nipple", and I told her "I don't think that a person who can't recognize a nipple should be examining breasts". *smiles* I will just tell them that I have pre-marked the nipples for them. This may relieve a lot of my stress about the test. Thank you.
