pyschosubmission -> "Alpha Males" (10/7/2012 8:38:18 AM)

Does anyone else roll their eyes at the phrase "Alpha Males"? I mean specifically in the case of somebody claiming "I'm an Alpha male." Just I've always thought of it as a bit of a bullshit expression, at University or at work the gentlemen that describe themselves as such would have difficulty leading themselves out of a small, knee height shrubbery. I can understand that in teams, some people love to take charge, but I think we all have had at least one experience where the aforementioned person was worse than useless as a leader.

Anyway the point I wanted to make was that Mr "Alpha Male" but instead it's a role we all play when required to.

thoughts/objections?

I agree with you.

"I AM AN ALPHA MALE" usually brings images to my mind of a diminuitive King Kong wanna-be beating his chest... NOT a pleasant image.

Hillwilliam -> RE: "Alpha Males" (10/7/2012 8:48:07 AM)

I don't think Alphas are the ones who want to take charge.

I think they're the ones that others are asking "Could you take charge of this, run this committee, etc?".

Others see their leadership skills.
The key is that they pick and choose and don't always say yes.

Ninebelowzero -> RE: "Alpha Males" (10/7/2012 8:48:12 AM)

I agree OP & woiuld like to add that those self claimed Alpha males were usually bulllied as children.

Were breast fed into their teens.

Have grown up with unformed genitalia.

This does not apply to the real life alpha's who don't go around harping on about it boring all & sundry.

He's talking specifically about the ones that self proclaim as alphas, Hilly...

I know that. I was simply showing what I feel a Weal and Twue Alpha is as opposed to a self-appointed one.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessss.

I hate it. It's eye roll and groan-inducing. For the record, I've never ended up getting along with any guy who labels himself that way.

King Kong isn't quite the image the phrase evokes with me when men use it in this context. I think of it more like self-stroking. I also find it ultra lame when guys feel the need to distinguish themselves from whatever mainstream, milquetoasty group they envision most submissive males to be.

I agree with you and Hilly.

Fancy that.

GreedyTop -> RE: "Alpha Males" (10/7/2012 8:54:04 AM)

notice I said diminuitive... like a micro version of king kong beating his chest to prove he is as big and bad as ...LOL

I should have made myself clearer, but it is almost naptime for me (kittys permitting...), and I plead sleepyhead muddled posting!

Baroana -> RE: "Alpha Males" (10/7/2012 8:55:03 AM)

I heard you. Your image is as valid as mine.

GreedyTop -> RE: "Alpha Males" (10/7/2012 8:56:53 AM)

fair enough! I wasn't sure that what I was trying to say was coming across AS I meant it!!

But yeah, I can get with your version, too!!

DarkSteven -> RE: "Alpha Males" (10/7/2012 9:03:46 AM)

I'm gonna start calling myself an Aleph Male.

Getting sneaky now!

Missokyst -> RE: "Alpha Males" (10/7/2012 9:37:32 AM)

I pretty much feel that anyone proclaiming an alpha status in anything has been spending too much time online. Alpha male, alpha female, alpha slave, alpha sub.. plueeeeeeeeeeese. For me alpha suggests you are one of a pack. Personally I would much rather be the lone wolf making my own kills along the way.

kalikshama -> RE: "Alpha Males" (10/7/2012 9:54:04 AM)

I have no objection to the phrase and in fact search for it on vanilla sites such as OKCupid.

RemoteUser -> RE: "Alpha Males" (10/7/2012 10:01:25 AM)

I'm an Omega male.

I turn into a robot and fight space aliens. How cool is that?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: "Alpha Males" (10/7/2012 10:52:34 AM)

It gives me a giggle. Not as big a giggle as the folks who still think that wolf society has that hierarchy.

JanahX -> RE: "Alpha Males" (10/7/2012 11:03:49 AM)

I am Alpha = hear me ROAR!!!!! - and then they usually have some pic attached that looks like this.

I, btw - message them right away, and tell them I cant wait to cam with them and Ill be on my knees naked with my toys out. I call them Master -and use third person.

These types are so rare, that when I stumble across one of them - my heart goes pitter-patter. [sm=hearts.gif]

OsideGirl -> RE: "Alpha Males" (10/8/2012 8:55:20 AM)

Master is an alpha male. I find it quite entertaining to watch how people react to him. Vanillas will open and hold his door. Waitresses fawn all over him. He has strong leadership skills and is frequently the person that people come to for direction.

That said.....you'd never see him thump his chest and proclaim himself as an alpha male.

I agree with this. I've been called an "alpha male" before. On many occasions actually. But it's not something that I go around professing to be. It's more a title that is given to me by others.

Even when I try to blend into the crowd, I always end up in charge. For some reason, people just naturally defer to me and choose me to be their leader (that's also why most Dommes have a hard time believing that I'm actually submissive).

IMO, being an "alpha male" is similar to being a Dom. It's easy to anoint yourself with the title, but it's not so easy to actually get someone to follow your leadership or grant you the title of their own volition.
