I hate it you are hurting. One of the baddest toughest dudes I ever knew was turned in to a blubbering idiot because of hernia pain. Get it fixed ASAP!!

tazzygirl -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/14/2012 11:14:42 AM)

If its pain... go.

If its just sore... you can wait.

Only you know for sure, hon.

My best wishes.

slvemike4u -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/14/2012 11:22:47 AM)

Tazz the Giants play San Fran at 4:30,the Yankees play Detroit at 4:20...and I'm thinking of driving(or being driven....lol) to the ER.
MY back pain meds aren't touching this pain,add to that the fact that I'm sort of doubled over with pain and my back is compromised too.
I think we passed "sore" a while ago [:)]

slvemike4u -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/14/2012 11:47:01 AM)

See you folks later,off to the hospital with my hurting self talk to you all after I have had this taken care of.Guess I will be spending a lot more time arguing in P and R while I recover.No golf for at least 2 weeks....argggggg,life sucks lol

servantforuse -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/14/2012 11:56:54 AM)

I've had a hernia exactly as you describe. It got worse over time and had to be operated on. I would have been better off if it had been repaired when the tear was still small.

My ex-husband had the same thing. If it had been repaired when it was small, it would have been endoscopic and out of the hospital the next day. Instead it ended up being a major operation with several days in the hospital and a couple of weeks out of work.

slvemike4u -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/14/2012 2:00:53 PM)

I'm back....seems if the dam thing can be pushed back in it is not an emergency.Guess I should have raced to the hospital when I was crawling on the floor in pain.
That's okay though,they did give me a surgical referral,so that is taken care of...I will be in touch with the surgeon's office at the earliest possible time...meanwhile till than I am ,for all intents and purposes bed ridden,I'm done walking around holding this fucking thing in.
Till it's fixed the world can spin without my contribution,I'm out of it.

JeffBC -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/15/2012 4:49:26 PM)

Wow! All I can tell you is that I had WAY less severe symptoms than yours and they found mine to be perfectly "operable".

kiwisub12 -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/15/2012 5:06:55 PM)

The docs are correct in that if your hernia reduces, it isn't a surgical emergency. HOWEVER - if it comes out again and won't go back - ie. incarcerated - go to the ER. It then becomes a surgical emergency to stop the bowel that is stuck through the hole from dying.

Its a simple surgery and won't have you out of action for long. [:D]

slvemike4u -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/19/2012 9:04:03 PM)

Yeah ,saw the surgeon today...he was a) shocked that my doctor didn't think it was operable ,b) hopeful that my doctor didn't think it would fix itself and c) hankful that my bowel didn't "die"(what the fuck,who knew bowels died?)told me that would have led to real issues for me.
He will do the surgery Monday morning,when he asked me when I wanted to do it I said"yesterday",lol....monday will have to do [:D]

Splendid, slvemike. I'm relieved you pursued a second opinion from a Doc who has a brain in his head. Many hugs, blessings and quick healing wishes to you.

calamitysandra -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/20/2012 8:59:44 AM)

Healing beamage for a fast recovery after the surgery.

ShaharThorne -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/20/2012 9:21:25 AM)

Burning a candle for you, man. Dad had a double hernia and had to stay in the hospital for a few days.

TheBanshee -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/20/2012 3:48:46 PM)

Feel better soon, glad you're getting it taken care of.

Glad to hear. When taken care of promptly, this is an uncomfortable thing but not the massive pain or life threatening situation that it can turn into.

Lucifyre -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/20/2012 4:32:32 PM)

What is your surgeon planning to do for the repair?
When I had my umbilical hernia fixed, they used a mesh covering. He went in laproscopically and sewed it up and then attached mesh over it to hold it still so it could heal.
I swear the pain afterward was worse than childbirth! I literally needed Mr to pick me up every time I needed to pee for two weeks straight. I wasn't able to use my tummy muscles at all, even on pain meds.

Well, whatever he does for you, I hope you have a speedy recovery and I hope the pain isn't too bad. But Please, if you have anyone at all available to help you for a couple of weeks TAKE THE HELP!

Lucifyre

slvemike4u -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/22/2012 7:13:36 AM)

Back from the hospital......less one hernia.
Feel comfortable right now,though the above post is scaring the shit out of me....lol
The Doc told me he was using an experimental local that stays with you for up to three days....so that should help.
Lucifyre,as for how he did the repair,he explained to me that this would depend on what he saw once he went in..... stitches or mesh.So I guess I will find out when I go back to him for a follow up.
Coughing is a little uncomfortable....but you can't have everything lol
P and R is going to see a lot of me for the next two weeks,personally I hope it rains every day here in NC...if I can't play golf,why should anyone else [:)]

tazzygirl -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/22/2012 8:22:10 AM)

Oh I miss the beauty of the Pinehurst course.

Hope you dont have much pain. My own hurt terribly for about 2 days, then it got easier. I was back to work in a week.

Dont forget to use a pillow when you cough!

smooches

yourdarkdesire -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/22/2012 8:31:10 AM)

Glad you got that looked after Mike. I wish I had seen this earlier. But now you know!

And just a correction to a previous post from someone.....the hernia wasn't incarcerated....that is what you do to bad guys. The proper term is strangulated. I hope that your surgery is effective. Sometime, however, hernias can recur. I have seen cases where guys are in for their third repair. If you ever have pain like that again, get to the ER now!

Hold a pillow against your abdomen when you cough, to give extra support. You should have been give guidelines as to driving, lifting, working, etc. FOLLOW THEM!!!!! Just because you are feeling fine at two weeks post op, doesn't mean you are healed.

Take care.
ydd, operating room nurse

ShaharThorne -> RE: A question about hernia's (10/22/2012 8:54:47 AM)

I agree with YDD. Follow doctors orders, take it easy and give them hell in P&R.
