*laughs* I have a somewhat different reaction to Disney. I see them pretty much as one of the most evil corporations in America having perverted IP law such that they were major contributors to our present predicament. So as a rule I don't have warm fuzzies and I don't purchase their products.

Master and I watch Disney movies. He likes Monsters Inc. and Up. I like the older ones like Snow White and Cinderella. It's just fun to watch them and just feel like kids again.

ETA: Master and I were talking about Disney and when we were kids one time and I told him about how I had these Disney records that I loved. They didn't play the soundtracks. They actually read the story to you along with sound effects. They were so kewl. I had Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Peter Pan, Peter and the Wolf and some others that I can't remember right now. I would listen to those all day and night. It would so fun to be able to find those again.

I couldn't help but read the comment about viewing disney as evil. I don't participate in forums usually, but this issue is one close to my heart.
Two points here for those who care.
First, they take perfectly good childrens stories like rapunzel and shove them thorugh a protective filter, distorting and disrespecting the story itself, and turning it to the opposite of it's intended use. Fairytales are there to teach lessons and inspire fear. They are not there to tell you that the good guys always win without getting hurt. That is beyond cruel. Telling every child they can grow up to be the princess astronaut president is a sweet idea, but a very damagning and cruel thing to use in reality. Your kids probably won't ever even come close to qualifying for the space program. You are setting them up to be discontented with life and to believe that they personally are capable of ruling the world and will always win in the end. It's one of the many ways the rest of the world sees us as culturally sick and screwed up here in the USA. (And if you think the world loves Americans, that's a whole other rant, suffice it to say we are considered to be the stupidest most dangerous people on earth and we just keep proving it's true.)
Also, Walt Disney was a known pedophile and an anti semite (hates Jews)
The movies themselves are a great happy colorful pick me up, but if you need to know why people think they are genuinely bad, there you go.

Wow. I'm so glad I never was like that. I always told my daughter she could be anything at all she ever wanted to be. All she had to do was work hard and have a passion. I still believe that for every human being on the planet.

Personally you sound like a very sad person. I don't think I would ever want to walk around with that type of attitude. How depressing.

We had some of those as well.

You can get them on Ebay, I just found.

Well if you put it that way beauty and the beast was originally about a horrid rapist who kept a girl prisoner, i prefer disneys adaptation. I prefer all disneys adaptations because it gives a little hope that the world isnt the horrible fucked up place it really is, and as for walt disney being whatever? Who cares! The man never depicted it in his films and with that he left a legacy behind him that still creates joy for kids of every age.

Indeed...........many many things we enjoy, admire, covet even.........have been created by terrible people.

I do not think it makes me a terrible person to admire a painting created by an artist of less than sterling character. Similarly with movies.

Yes, Disney world is in Florida, it is awesome. We always stay at the Disney Institute. Its one of the resorts there, and it's right next to Pleasure Island. Love it!!

I've just turned 58 and recently watched "John Carter". Gets my vote for arguably the best, most enjoyable sci-fi movie ever. Great story - didn't overdo the rubber masks (unlike Star Wars) - gorgeous babe - best, most loveable "dog" ever - throw in moments of subtle humour etc....

Yep, "best & most" comes regularly to mind....

Ok brittany spears was in the mickey mouse club same as christina aguilera and justin timberlake yet no mention of those two, when britneys music was good for its time, judge for her music not her actions (same was as how the world views michael jackson now, music not actions) lion king two was a good sequel to the first one, fineas and ferb are not disney, never will be lol and for miley cyrus....everyone makes mistakes...big unforgiveable mistakes

Because I looked behind the curtain at their business practices and the effects those have had on US intellectual property law (and, by extension, the rest of the world's IP law insofar as the US can make that happen). It isn't their products that are evil, but the way they are marketed. See south park's episode on Disney for a humorous reader's digest version.

Oh god, IP law is different all over the world, america can't simply change a law world wide its on every country to adhere to there laws because its american company but it doesnt actually mean its been changed world wide. thats for each country to decide based on the constitution and copyright laws already in existence.

Nobody is too hardcore for disney.
