ORIGINAL: littleone14 I don't know. I find it troubling. Statistically speaking (and the Statistics and Census Bureau of Norway does some seriously nice work in population level statistics), women worry three times as much as they should about violence, sexual assault and the like, while men worry about as much as they should. Consider that there is a fairly high chance that you're finding this a lot more troubling than it merits, which is detrimental to your health and overall enjoyment of life. quote:
I know the odds of running across someone this crazy are slim to none, but they are still out there. Still, there is no point in worrying. The universe may spontaneously end at light speed, and you won't even know it's coming, or feel it happening, but you're hopefully not going to sit around worrying about it. From memory, "the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Incidentally, unless there's been more news, I don't think it's been established that the guy was crazy, just odd. Note that in The Netherlands, cann/vore fetishes are part of the curriculum for sexologists. Very few with that fetish go on to do anything, although the sort of reaction he's getting now may prime a person in that direction. Since a substantial fraction of the world now knows his face and will think "there's that cannibal cop" if they see him, whatever the outcome of the trial, with his wife no doubt leaving him, with hardening experiences in jail, he will likely have nothing to lose by taking things further, and they'll do a lot to push him over that line- usually very difficult to cross- between fantasizing about something and actually doing murder. I wouldn't be surprised if the guy kills himself. The cann/vore fetish usually occurs in people with normal social function, normal morals, normal inhibitions and even normal or above normal empathy, and without the cooccurence of any form of sadism. That's part of why a lot of people with that fetish engage in roleplay online, or view their version of porn (generally drawn; only a few actual cases have photographic accounts one can find online, and most will find those disgusting and disturbing). Most that like the act itself would have serious problems with things that are necessarily a part of actually committing it, as well. For instance, pain, death, etc., are just as difficult to deal with for someone that has this fetish as for other people. A very high estimate would be one actual case every two years in the USA. Compare this to seventy thousand recorded traffic deaths for the same interval. IWYW, — Aswad.
