merely a title every tom dick and harriot bestows upon themselves - which to be fair is perfectly oki, and I am no fan of absolute labels - well less its 6 muffins for £1.

Your talking about a true dom are you not - few exist. I only ever knew two whence i used to frequent clubs.

Those few that exist come in two types
1) will treat you like a worthless piece of garbage for no other reason than it makes em feel big and to exact out an insidious part of their whole being
2) the more thoughtful

think that covers them.

In order to master another, one must master oneself. Self-mastery is a phrase often tossed around, but not easily explained. It requires a level of personal insight, emotional awareness, and self knowledge above and beyond what the 'average' person possesses.

Self-mastery is a process, a personal path that takes time. This is why we laugh at 19 year old 'masters' -- we know they don't have the maturity, experience and wisdom to have followed the path to self-mastery.

If you are serious about mastering yourself, I highly recommend studying the Tao philosophy (not the religion, the philosophy). In this philosophy, the Tao is the 'Great Master.' Learning to be as one with the Tao will help you on your personal road to self-mastery.

I usually lurk on this site, but I had to post in response to this. Too often I have seen wannabe Masters (and Mistresses...douchebaggery isn't gender-specific) who feel that throwing the term "Master" in front of their name means they can now demand submission. That isn't the case. It matters little what you call yourself. It all rests in how you treat others and how you present yourself.

I've said this to people before, but I think it deserves repeating here. The greatest gift a submissive can give is their willing submission to a Dominant. That is a gift more precious than gold, and more fragile than glass. As a Dom, it is my duty and my responsibility to make sure that, every day of my life, I am worthy of that gift. If I ever fail to treat a submissive with the respect, care, and concern that he* is due, then I am no longer worthy of his gift.

(*I say "he" only because any submissive I work with is male. Insert the gender pronoun that fits best for you)

To be a master all you need is a slave that thinks of you as her master, it's as simple as that.

Now being good at it is another story.
