Yachtie -> UNION! (11/2/2012 7:07:24 AM)

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NEW JERSEY (WAFF) -

Crews from Decatur Utilities headed up there this week, but Derrick Moore, one of the Decatur workers, said they were told by crews in New Jersey that they can't do any work there since they're not union employees.

The above speaks for itself.

Great.  Many lives depend on this, and I am glad they are not using JoethePlumber types of woodticks who are not certified and trained professionals, who have served apprenticeships in the business under seasoned professionals which union cards are guarentees of.

It speaks well for itself.

I am sure you would rather have a real doctor perform open heart surgury on you than someone who has not been certified, so your post seems to be at odds with your normally astute observations of reality[8|]

Moonhead -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 7:33:03 AM)

The AMA isn't a union, then?

mnottertail -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 7:35:11 AM)

It is a Guild.

subspaceseven -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 7:38:45 AM)

Really cause on all the other news they are showing crews from Alabama working......and in the same article..

Huntsville Utilities said they were not turned away and are up in storm ravaged areas working.

You only read till it fits your agenda

servantforuse -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 7:40:22 AM)

One can be certified as a Master Electrician without being a member of a union.

Many say that the unions are the guardians of the middle class. They don't seem to give much of a shit about those poor middle class fuckers sitting in the cold and dark.

The bottom line is that there is a lot of money to be made working up there putting infrastructure back together and those greedy fuckers want every red cent of it even it it means people have to freeze to death waiting.

Non union crews worked in a diff area.

mnottertail -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 7:44:23 AM)

One can be certified as a Master Electrician without being a member of a union.

In these cases the requirements and training and prior apprenticeship is wholly controlled by state certification boards, like lawyers are.

A master electrician in Arkansas is equivalent to a dishwasher in Minnesota.

servantforuse -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 7:44:55 AM)

As most here on collarme know, I was a union member ( CWA ) for 34 years. This is one example why I no longer support them..

subspaceseven -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 7:46:19 AM)

According to NBC the very crew he is saying is not working is, and according to his own article they are working in the area.....

So nothing but BS read the line in the article that states..."Huntsville Utilities said they were not turned away and are up in storm ravaged areas working".

so they are working....what's the news here then???

The "they" is the crew in question..

Aaaaaaaaaaaand your evidence for that piece of utter asswipe is?

servantforuse -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 7:48:52 AM)

Not true. Those crews are on their way back to Alabama as we speak.

subspaceseven -> RE: UNION! (11/2/2012 7:50:46 AM)

and your proof of such is?????? Because Huntsville is the crew they are claiming got turned away...opps not Huntsville...Decatur and they are working in the area...

Kinda Perry moment there

from other new sources...

CP+L spokesman Ron Morano denies reports that the utility turned away help from non-union workers from Alabama.

“We have a great partnership (with our unions) and we non-union workers working as part of this restoration effort. Our unions understand this is an all-hands-on-deck effort and it was not Jersey Central Power and Light that turned away that crew,” Morano told New Jersey 101.5′s Jim Gearhart.

Utility workers from Alabama, touted by Governor Christie as coming a great distance to help restore power, were reportedly turned away by a crew in Seaside Heights because they did not belong to a union.

Huntsville Utilities, Decatur Utilities and Trinity Electric workers were sent to Long Island instead according to Huntsville, Alabama TV station WAFF because “they were told by crews in Seaside Heights that they can’t do any work there since they’re not union employees” according to one of the employees.

Morano pointed out that Seaside Heights has a municipal utility. and said JCP+L “is taking the help that has been made available to us.”

Decatur Utilities was turned away from Seaside Hts NJ..

Huntsville is working someplace else.

2 different utility companies from different towns working (or wanting to work) in to different areas. The term "Storm ravaged areas" includes several different states unfortunately.

As for their qualifications. Southern utility company workers (especially in the gulf coast region) have forgotten more about repairing hurricane damaged infrastructure than those guys in the Northeast ever knew. Maybe that's why the union crews turned them away. They didn't want it to be known that someone else can do a job better, faster and cheaper.
