I've seen several people on this thread post about restraining orders. I also see you have pursued one. Restraining orders are of very limited value, IMO. I have known many problem people to ignore them and their consequences. Due to those situations, many states have enacted antistalking laws which provide specific penalties and avenues to prosecute. I would strongly reccomend you find out if your state is one that has created such a law. The reprecussions from breaking a restraining order are just not enough for a serious problem individual.

Keep accurate records of everything, document, document, document. So that way if you must take this to the court system, you will be prepared, and it will be clear that it was an ongoing problem.

Best of luck, I hope you get this resolved peacefully.

Mouseyone,

Please listen to all the advice from people who have been/ done. Trust your gut and call the police anytime -- They actually don't mind. In my city there in a "non-emergency" number to call for don't need the red lights, but....

You might also let your neighbors know to keep a lookout.

Be safe,

wes

As far a online stalkers are concerned, it's a very difficult task to prove they are stalking, as well as it is difficult to prosecute those who stalk online. Lots of proof must be provided:

*1) copies of emails with full headers
*2) chat transcripts if those apply -- No, not those you have saved yourself but ORIGINAL transcripts provided by AOL or Yahoo or MSN (whichever apply) and just to aquire those you'll need a court order.

* 1 and/or 2 must contain proof of a real threat as well as proof of your having told them clearly to STOP.

i have witnessed first hand how difficult it is to prove being stalked online. i have also witnessed second hand how difficult it is to prove being stalked online (my closest friend was the subject of a stalker online. i witnessed it. We both provided all of the proofs needed in multiples. We had 3 years worth of documents and we both forwarded it all to the FBI once we had enough proof of an actual public threat to her physical safety. They took the matter seriously & did respond to us both by email as well as by phone.

Unfortunately, my friend has sinced passed away (due to a pre-existant serious health condition). The jerk was never prosecuted.

The best advice i can give is to protect your personal information while online.

Never use your real name in chats or forums or emails etc.
Use a good firewall to protect the information stored on your PC.
Educate yourself on the issues of stalking.

Stalking information & advice (written by a very good friend personal of mine who went through all of the channels to get help with a stalker who stalked her for over 3 years).

My ex Master is seeking me to return with him, to a point where he is showing up at my work. Do i just ignore his harrassing me? I am afraid of him but how can i prove that he is harrassing me and not just my imagination running wild?

You must take action! Do not wait until this escalates. If you have a fear then you can get a restraining order. You do not have to prove anything in order to get a restraining order as long as it is a reasonable request. The fact that he is showing up at you place of employment is more than enough of a reason. No judge will deny your request. Don't be afraid to do this. As far as his reactions to a restraining order (many people seem to get even more upset over it)- if he doesn't break the restraining order then no harm done. If he does then its a good thing you have it. Without a restraining order, the police really can't do anything about him. If he shows up at your work and you call the police, they are powerless to do anything unless he does something else (physical or verbal attack). If he shows up and you have a restraining order, then the police will react appropriately and can protect you. But you need that restraining order!

Call your phone company and see if they have the option to block his phone number. You may also wish to let them know you are being harrassed via the phone. It is against the law and punishable. You may wish to mention it to him when he calls again. As far as obtaining proof you could buy a recorder from radio shack, cost about 100$.

You don't actually need anything for proof. Just call the phone compnay and tell them you are getting harrassing and threatening calls. The phone company takes this very, very seriously and they will help you. They can do all kind of things including blocking his number. But it is important to call the phone company immediately!
