I cannot get it play. Also it gives no indication of when we may be able to view it in the states. Do you happen to know when it will be availiable to us?

If it is based on a true story, it sounds like a lesson is being careful who you play with and that anyone can use our language but that doesn't mean they have the same moral or ethical code that you do.

Seems like it could do a lot to scare folks. But maybe some people need to be a bit more scared before they rush off into relationships they know nothing about.

The problem is that I think it also will be seen as an example of how evil everyone who does anything similar to this is and enforce the stereotype that its a men vs. women situation where the roles are defined by sex not by the individual.

Actually, thetammyjo, from what it sounded like to me, from the trailer? Is that it's not the Dom that offers to train her that's the bad guy. The people who take the slaves and do horrible things to them seems to be a different, 'underground' operation. Something about the military...they sounded American.

i distinctly heard the foreign man (the Dom) say that she should be given her identity back and let go.

But then again, it's a trailer! i could have misinterpreted it completely wrong.

That's what I'm refering to -- the bad guys. I'm sure that is what the general public will lock onto.

The trailor also though made it seem like its a he picks her up, offers her this and with not much time or thought she accepts thus opening herself up to the bad guys who have found away into what is arguably a consensual world.

Perhaps it will play out like "Mr. Benson" and the rich guy who introduces her to things will ride in to rescue her. I think a mundane person could easily blame him though for ever introducing her to the world in the first place.

I was talking to my slave about this a while ago when we returned books to the library. He pointed out that how the mundanes respond isn't so much the issue as how kinky folks will respond to the movie. Is a "it's hot and turned me on" a good response if the mundane world reacts negatively? Is it understanding what the movie has to say?

We'll have to see it to know what it has to say but the "based on a true story" does not sound good in terms of anything positive coming out of it unless we (collectively as a group) do more than just use it to get hard or wet with.

But then I'm a teacher, maybe its part of my nature to think about these things too much.

my take on the trailer was a bit different, i took it as a girl being trained...and then it went to the bad guys taking the girl away from her Master and her Master fighting to get her back....that the movie has a bit of duelism going on in it with the first half focusing on her and the second half more on how he reacts to her being gone and what he does to get her back....

the other half of it is of course is that they had to make the second half of the film for it is still not completely accepted in the US, but stories of people getting taken away is...it is the plot device used to get an audience......remember...Secutary <typo> was billed as a "dark comedy"

Was it just me or was the director being rather condescending and negative about the lifestyle?

Loved the secretary.

I already plan to be disappointed with this.  The only time TV or movies show alternative lifestyles in the movies is when they also want to show crime and violence.  Anything that creates titillation and fear in the audience.

If it's a true story - what true story? Is it based on a book?  You mean like the Da Vinci  Code?

check out the comments of the director:
http://www.thepetmovie.com/dstevens.htm
more misinformation and distortions about the BDSM community in my opinion.
More stuff is here.
http://www.thepetmovie.com/cast.html

It's not a "true" story.  It's "based on truth", according to the writer/director.   That's a far stretch from "true story"  A true story is an event that actually happened.  A story that you THINK is like something that may have happened in real life, well that's different.  That's called fiction.

More misunderstanding here:
http://www.thepetmovie.com/Jeanniel Neil.htm

Apparently we don't have free will.  Damn.  I could of sworn I WANTED to be a sub (or was it a dom?), and I thought I was CHOOSING something. But I guess I wasn't. It's our lack of free will that explains all this behavior!  Phew, I was worried it was because I was perverted! Now if I can only find my free will, I'm sure I can go back to vanilla!

My take from the trailer was, the man's first lady was bought from the "bad guys' and when she died he decided to train the new girl on his own, the bad guys found out didn't like it because that's money lost because he didn't purchase a new slave, so they took her to make him buy her back.

I'm a human pet, and all I could think of was 'oooh pretty cage.  Where can Master get one of those?!"  What led me to believe the man's first pet came from the bad guys is they all had the same cages...same cages, different women in them * shrugs* of course I could be way off.

Looks like a good flick..I didn't read the comments, but I may go back and do that

In the director's commentary, he says they ordered the cage from a what sounded like a BDSM supply company.  So I'm sure it's out there somewhere!

I saw the directors comments WOW...he is really trying to bridge the bdsm community to the mainstream. Letting them know the sub culture is real and valid and that we are content safe sane consentual and that there is nothing wrong with us.

The other aspect is that he is showing that slavery is ugly when it is forced.

lets see if the nillas can wrap their brains around it all and what will come of it

when will it be released here in the US?

Wow Americans are the new Russians as far as movie bad guys go!

If they could make a new pet in two weeks why don’t they ? Instead of stealing some rich French guys pet?

Movies looks chessy but I bet I will get it the minute it hits the 99 cent bin.

Also the Americans in this movie are bad guys but why do you need a trained slave to extract body parts for black market organ sale?

i spoke with one of the 'top dogs' at Tricoast Studios today.  They are so serious about showing the good side of our lifestyle that the original blog on the myspace page was changed after i sent them an e-mail saying that i didn't become Master's slave because my life sucked and that consensual slavery is not a 'problem' but an eagerly sought condition.  i was told that upon reading my e-mail and re-reading their blog, they realized that it was badly written -- and they changed it!!  Is that cool or what??

The underground, forced selling of slaves does exist - here in America and in Europe.  But the film isn't all about the bad stuff ... it concentrates on the good aspects of our lifestyle, only showing the bad as part of the story.

Tricoast needs people to e-mail THEM, to contact THEM, to leave comments on their myspace page ... they need to be able to show their distributors that people are seriously interested in seeing the movie publicly released.  If they have a lot of interest in specific locations, that's where it will premiere.

IF there isn't enough public interest, then they will eventually offer a DVD on their website but i doubt it will reach Netflix or places like that anytime soon.

They need to be able to show their distributors that people are seriously interested in seeing the movie publicly released. If they have a lot of interest in specific locations, that's where it will premiere. So e-mail them, leave a comment on the profile page, become amember of myspace.com and then a friend of THE PET MOVIE. Anything in order to show interest in the movie to the distributors.

**email from the producer**

Thanks so much for expressing your interest in viewing THE PET movie. We are campaigning HARD to have the distributors premiere THE PET in multiple US cities in the next several months and your participation is significant! Armed with stacks of emails, MySpace "friends", and 1000s of hits from the website, we hope to be able to convince them that the audience DOES exist and WILL attend a theatrical presentation of this film. Please help us show them we have the Alternative Lifestyle Community's support in bringing this important film to it's audience. Here's what you can do. Tell everyone you know (over the age of 18) to:
1. Visit www.thepetmovie.com (http://www.thepetmovie.com ) to see the trailer
2. Visit www.myspace.com/thepetmovie and become a FRIEND of THE PET MOVIE; leave a comment and let us know what city you'd like to see the film in and how many people you think you could get to attend the opening weekend.
3. OR, email [email protected] and let us know the city and number of guests to attend the opening.
4. Be vocal on your fav internet groups and let them all know about THE PET and # 1,2,3 above.
5. Forward this to all of your friends!

Getting an independent voice heard is not easy. Thanks for playing a part in getting THE PET seen by as many people as possible!

Warm regards,
Marcy
