So we invent a time machine & can go back to see bands that are no longer with us or just plain crap these days.

Who would you go see?

ooooooooo DrG and i talk about this all the time, not just the gone bands though, but also the ones i missed when i was younger. if i go back in time i want to choose my age too....not that i'm asking for much or anything lol. we'd just love to go back and see our favorite bands when they were playing smaller venues. we did see The Mission, and The Cult recently in quite a small venue, but still not in the back of a pub thing.

i'd gladly see Led Zeppelin, The Mission, Killing Joke, Bauhaus, and if i were with him then Hawkwind as well just to see him freak out lol

there are more besides so i may be back.

I’m going to cry “foul” here. You give us a come-on about “bands of olde”, but then make a list with bands that for the most part could only be considered “middle aged”. No Beatles? No Monkees? The Band? CCR? Steppenwolf? The Doors? Jefferson Airplane? The Byrds? Buffalo Springfield? The Allman Brothers. The Dave Clark Five.

Or let’s go back a little further…The Drifters. Flash Cadillac & The Continental Kids. The Del Vikings. The Everly Brothers. Jay and the Americans. The Fleetwods. The Dixie Cups.

And who can forget the REAL “Bands of Olde”? Mozart and the Merry Maids? Brahams Boogie Band. The Beethoven Concerto Trio. Or that greatest of punk bands, Ravel’s Rowdies?

I'm with Igor on this one - definitely a FOUL!

Apart from Led Zep and possibly Zappa, most of those bands I've either not heard of or are what I'd call wannabe bands immitating (and making a right pigs ear of), the real good olde bands.

I shan't go before the very early 60's (or at a push, very very late 50's) either because to me, there wasn't anything decent and worth listening to before that.

And as an ex Caroline rodie, you can probably guess my musical genre.
So I didn't vote in this poll. Sorry.

I don't choose any of the above, but if I could go back, I'd definitely have to go for The Doors, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis (at his comeback gig in '69), Siouxsie (when they were doing the smaller venues), Ian Dury and The Blockheads and Dr Feelgood.

The only group I'm truly sorry to have never seen live is Queen.

The Police

The New York Dolls

Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars

Just off the top of my head...I'm sure I have tons of others I wish I could still see.

CCR

I had tix to the latest Fleetwood Mac tour but they canceled

And definitely the Beatles - in their later years (although I've seen Paul McCartney and he was awesome)

The pre Steve Perry Journey

A young Elton John

Nothing on your list that I'd jump for. I saw Nirvana in a little club in Portland, before they broke. I thought they absolutely sucked. I wouldn't mind taking that time machine to see Alice in Chains again at the same place. I was fucked up five different ways that night, and wish I could remember more of it.

Metallica, before they lost Cliff Burton and decided it was both easier and more profitable to morph into metallic bubble-gum.

I'd also love to see Metallica with Cliff and definitely Alice in Chains. Queen would be awesome to see.

Elvis, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Nat King Cole, Diana Ross & the Supremes, Robert Palmer, Johnny Cash... I could go on and on.

Since we're naming individuals also than just bands, then I'm expanding my list:

Johnny Cash
Adam Ant
John Lennon...not the Beatles
Patsy Cline
Billie Holiday
Bob Marley
Stevie Ray Vaughan

I'm on the list for the Beatles.

While she is semi-retired and not beyond the pale, I would also love to see Sam Brown perform. The woman has an amazing vocal range. She would be better known if she let the music industry run her career, but she chose the road of controlling her own music, which I applaud.

In younger years I would have gone to see National Velvet, before Mark Storm was found dead in Lake Ontario. I'm not sure how I feel about seeing them now, as they recently reformed.

I would of loved to see Queen...

Remy (if I may), before this, I was not familiar with this Sam Brown woman, but have just listened to her "Horse to Water," and all I can say is what a clear, simple and honest voice she has. I will look into more of her work. Thanks.
