As with anything, there are often risks. I would suggest you read up on the topic as much as possible before agreeing to have it done.

I wouldn't say the article strongly recommends not doing it. I'd say the article is practical common sense regarding why a person should be careful doing it and may want to avoid the practice if there is already a reason that the prostate is enlarged due to health reasons. Sure. If a person is using more pressure than necessary, a fingernail with a sharp edge, or a device that could puncture the prostate, yeah, I'd say that was a bad idea. There's very little specific in the article that says milking under normal conditions, using safe practices, that warns against it. The article basically said to be as safe about the practice as you can. Which is basically what a person should be doing for any of the activities associated with BDSM. The article has an alarmist slant. Nothing more.

I have to agree with Lady P. Being an internal gland, care must be used when using toys and/or fingers to massage the prostate as any rough edges can scratch the gland and may lead to a prostate infection. Been there once and it is nerve wracking as I had no achy pain and didn't know until the next time I was playing and saw the seminal fluids were a dark brown and not the usual milky color. A quick trip to the doctor for antibiotics and a lecture was a mite embarrassing. For an extra precaution, maybe a condom or two over the insertable or the finger(s) will lessen the chances of scratching the gland? If fingers are used, ensure the nails are trimmed short and filed smooth.

Isn't the first time I've read about the dangers. I am convinced they are real. There are so many options open to us in S&M B/D play, so why screw around with those that can harm us?

I thought that it was a common medical practice, and just more common in general. I mean if you engage in any anal play isn't there a chance you'll be stimulating the prostate? I did it once and loved it. If it was my choice it would be the only way that I would cum. Also there's plenty of prostate massager toys, etc. So I thought it was relatively safe. It's the only way you can cum without orgasm. Which is nice if you have a cum fetish. As there is no refractory period. I guess I was wondering if there was anyone out there that does it regularly? or what the safest way to go about it would be?

experiemental1: Yes, it is a medical procedure. I had it done to me about 10 years ago. Hurt when I peed. After a little checking, my doctor had me stand next to the exam table, put on a glove, finger up my butt, holding a glass slide to the head of my penis. Didn't take her long to coax a bit of fluid onto the slide. Came back as I had prostitus, and antibiotics took care of the problem. But this was done by a medical professional, and she was aware of the possible consequences and knew how to treat them. And no, it was not a real turn on to have her do it to me. Yes, all kinds of things are for sale to stimulate your prostate. And cigarettes are legal for sale as well. You've done your own research, so I guess you can make up your own mind and do what you please. I'm sure you can find lots of people, probably on this site, who will tell you it is harmless.

I do it every so often. Carefully. Meaning I keep my nails short and filed and I use hand lotion regularly so my hands aren't rough. Plus I wear an exam glove. When I used to have long nails, I would put a big cotton ball over each nail tip and slip a glove on so they were padded and wouldn't scratch or puncture. My partner loves it. NBMG
