Dave Brubeck has died at 92.

I am old enough to remember the impact of the "Time Out" album.

And I remember seeing him in the late 60's. At one point they all left
Morello alone on the stage and he gave us a stunning 8 minute drum solo.

In the 50s he was the one who started touring colleges when he could not
get booked into clubs. An idea he credited to his wife.  Another way he
pioneered in the music field.

I also remember reading that one TV executive told him they would like to
book him and give him national exposure; "but of course you will have to use
a white bass player." Burbeck declined.

A giant in music and a class act in life. Thank you Dave.

I am really glad I just finished tweaking my vintage music system.  Tonight
I shall take a "Time Out"  listen to "Jazz Impressions of Japan" and some
of my other favorites.

My high school took music very seriously. It was more enviable to be in the band than shine in any athletics.

Dave Brubeck used to come and do "assemblies" for free...not just play but also talk to us about jazz.

I'm gonna play take 5. Love his stuff.

NOTICE:

I just heard that tomorrow on NPR the "On Point" show is
going to do an hour on Dave Brubeck.

Also Marian McPartland's "Piano Jazz" is going
to replay their show with him they did a few years ago.

Just heard another promo.  Fresh Air with Terry Gross
is going to rerun their 1999 interview with Brubeck tomorrow.

Tomorrow is looking to be an excellent day to be listening to
the radio while you work.
