iiiikkkkes, eye level in the window is perhaps not the best idea but it will sure get them some free advertising.

This is funny as the idea for "Barbie" dolls came during the developer's trip to Germany many years ago and where she observed the little dolls sold to German men and put in their house windows to demonstrate the type of women they desired/found attractive so women walking by might know their "tastes." Thus these dolls were "adult" toys. And some had very "risque" apparel and accouterments.

So the Barbie doll has gone the full circle.

Uh...yea, that isn't the history of the doll I'm finding...

Even though Barbie was based on the Lilli dolls, they weren't put in windows by the German men to denote what they wanted in a wife...

Who invented Barbie and why?

So granted, while they were originally marketed to adults (Lilli was the ultimate gold digger), she became popular with young girls who liked being able to dress her up.

I found the display adorable! Granted it might create many questions for parents walking their children through there, but what was normally in the window? In any case, the shop is in the gay section, so parents would likely have to explain some lifestyle things anyway that could potentially cross their path.

I doubt the ladies who collect the Barbie dolls and write websites will give you the full particulars, if they knew of them.

Why do you think German men would buy these types of "adult novelty" dolls at their local bar along with the accouterments and "dress" them up?

And I did not claim it was only for men seeking wives either, sex workers also considered them and even posted them in their windows to demonstrate the services and so on.

This was what I was told by my uncle who had traveled to Germany for a while after WW2 and worked and studied there. He had obtained a brunette one, which he kept dressed as a "Saint Pauli girl."

Anyway it appears the "fashion doll" has returned to "adult novelty" status again with "Bondage Barbies"
