*pats ya on the back* I almost cried when I heard about this. Then I told the tears to go the hell back where they came from.

There are no words .. my heart breaks for the families who lost a child yesterday and for those children and adults that were in the middle of this tradegy. We can only hope that time will help heal.

Does anyone know if the childrens bodies were removed from the classroom yet? As of last night when I went to bed, they were not.

ABC news has a blog where they're posting updates. 7:51am Eastern time it said that some, but not all, of the bodies had been removed. But that was a few hours ago, so it's possible they have by now.

TallullahHk -> RE: Connecticut shooting at elementary school (12/15/2012 8:56:01 AM)

They were removed overnight and identified. The names and ages will be released today at some point.

My heart breaks for everyone affected by this tragedy.

Thanks you guys. It really disturbed me to think of their bodies just lying there. It just adds to the suffering of their families.

Sadly, it's necessary for the forensics people to do their job of securing the evidence.

And, just as sadly, it isn't always easy to make a positive identification after a fatal shooting.

~hugs~

Most departments try to move within 2 hours...though photos, diagrams & notes have to be done before...which in a scene this big could take a while.

I just can't imagine going to pick up kid from school & have police ask you to go home for photos. [X(] interview where kid talked about bullet whizzing past him before teacher pulls him in a room was horrible to hear about.

TheBanshee -> RE: Connecticut shooting at elementary school (12/15/2012 10:52:49 AM)

I just wanted to add my prayers to those families as well. I'm so saddened by this and so upset that there is so much evil in this world. My prayers extend to all those first responders too - what they must have to do to hold it together to do their job and do it professionally I can't even begin to comprehend.

Words are not enough. This was so senseless.

DomMeinCT -> RE: Connecticut shooting at elementary school (12/15/2012 11:07:01 AM)

Many of the first responders were local residents. I read last night that there are counselors already deployed for responders, who might also be struggling with coming to terms with the horrific scene and working in it.

SeekingTrinity -> RE: Connecticut shooting at elementary school (12/15/2012 11:31:41 AM)

I watched news coverage in horror yesterday...hand over mouth, tears streaming down my cheeks. My daughter was off at her elementary school and I couldnt help but miss her even more than I normally do. Most days Im glad she is at school because I know she loves it and Ill be honest...I love the break. But yesterday, I found myself wanting her home RIGHT NOW. She still doesnt know about what happened at Sandy Hook yesterday and Im not really sure what I can say yet when she does find out and start asking questions.

I cannot even fathom the hell those poor people in Newtown are going through right now. From the parents of the children who died, to the families of the others who lost their lives, to the first responders who had to witness what can only be imagined to be an horrific scene, to the survivors who had to endure what can only be the scariest thing in their life. My heart literally hurts and it has ached since yesterday.

Forensically, Aswad is sadly very correct. I know someone who is part of the forensic crime scene team for our local county sheriffs department and Ive asked him before why the hell it takes so long for them to move a person who was deceased from a crime scene. He told me that he knows how horrible it sounds to have someone laying there for hours while a crime scene is processed, but they want to make sure that they leave no stone unturned when it comes to the scene. If it takes a couple of hours to process a crime scene involving one person, I can only imagine the amount of hard work that has to go into processing a scene that involves the level of carnage that Sandy Hook Elementary experienced.

I would try something along the lines of what I told my nanny kids after oklahoma city because they found me in tears. I told them I was sad because some bad people did a bad thing & babies are now in heaven which makes me sad.
Then answered their questions like did it hurt? For just a second then the angels took them.
Why did the bad people do this? I don't know
Will those bad people come here? No & promise I will do everything to keep you safe always
They took it well & then went & dressed up dolls in "special clothes" (lace table cloth) "so the heaven babies know she misses them too". After that explaination we kept a strict news off around ums stance, till media went back to less upsetting topics.

SeekingTrinity -> RE: Connecticut shooting at elementary school (12/15/2012 2:19:14 PM)

That sounds like a great plan. Thank you so much for giving me some place to start if and when she begins asking questions of her own.

Watching the press conference with the father of one of the murdered children. It took a tremendous amount of compassion for that man to offer his thoughts and condolences to the shooter's family. God bless him.

TeenagerFromMars -> RE: Connecticut shooting at elementary school (12/15/2012 2:31:04 PM)

I know we're not supposed to post addresses and stuff, but I have the address for the school and was planning on sending them some sort of mail or letter or i don't know... Would I be able to post it here for those who would like to do the same? Maybe people can PM me for it if the mods would rather me not post it publicly?
