Looks like a member of the bicher family. Throat insemination makes sense for a mouth brooder & is certainly better than lay eggs, fertilize then pick up to hold.

Your second guess is correct.
Approximately two hours of my life I will never get back. I refused to partake in the viewing of the second one, the first was torture enough.

I'll put the first movie on my do-not-watch list!

It's pretty foul, and completely stupid, which is never a good mix.
(From a technical point of view, the fact that they obviously didn't have any story at all beyond the conceit starts becoming very apparent less than an hour into the film as well...)
