If I am entitled, by law, to know if my neighbor is a sex offender, to protect my grandchildren when they are visiting, I should be entitled to know if my neighbor owns a firearm.

He or she has every right to own a firearm LEGALLY - but I should have a right to know if he does.

That way, if he or she parks blocking my driveway, I can bring my own firearm with me when I tell him or her to move the car, rather than be shot and killed by him or her because I wasn't be able to defend myself. If we're both armed, it will then just be a matter of who shoots first and most accurately (I won the New England Army Reserves/National Guard pistol championship 3 years in a row, so I'm confident I'd win that gunfight).

In short, I should be able to know if my neighbors are doing something that might endanger my life or the lives of my family - even if what they are doing is LEGAL.

Lastly, nowhere in the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is there anything that says that the right to bear arms includes a right to anonymity.

wrong he is doing nothing wrong or illegal and puting a gun owner in the same class as a sex offender is inulting

Do you think the gun gives a shit if/when it goes off accidentally or kills your neighbor`s kid, when they eventually find it?

Do guns care if they fire through some plywood and sheetrock into your neighbor`s body or of his family`s?

I`d want to know if and what types they owned.

Bushmaster can easily fire through my house or anyone else`s.

Most town`s and cities are tightly packed, not leaving much room for error.

Don`t we as American citizens have the right to know the dangers around us?

If someone`s bullets stoped at their property line.... it would be one thing.

But they don`t.

Great post Flight-D.

In New York, a permit and registration is not required to own a rifle or a shotgun, and a license to possess a handgun also serves as a license to carry unless restricted. What they published was the names and addresses of people with a license to possess and unless restricted carry a handgun.

Wrong concealed weapons permits are seperate from owning...

I apologize for the delay. Keeping you honest is more of a job than I have ready time for. The statement you quoted is not wrong. New York doesn't have "concealed weapons permits" and the only records of gun ownership are licenses to possess a handgun, which, unless specifically restricted, are licenses to carry.

Thank you for your time.

You have actually lived in NY haven't you?

I wouldn't have a bushmaster if you gave it to me, the .223 is a gloified varmit round, now my 30 06 will go through your house and out the other side, thats why my primary home defense weapon is a 12ga lots more punch and won't go through walls. And if any neighbor kids find my gun they would have to have broken into my house to do it. If they died while committing a felony whos fault is that.

[sm=rofl.gif] You are always good for a laugh..oh where are all the studies support Lott that you claim ....talk about honesty.

Let me see..license to owner, permit to carry, registration of firearm, permit to purchase, yes hand guns..
A license to carry OR posses a pistol or revolver is required to purchase a handgun.

Better put out a list of people who have tall trees, too. It could list the age and "life expectancy" of the tree, too, so you know the danger to your property you risk. I don't own a gun, so I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is an insurance premium increase if you own and house a gun or guns, to cover accidental death and/or property damage due to the weapon.

I wonder how much a permit costs, and if that's discriminatory...

I'm curious. Once you acquire the knowledge that your neighbor has a gun or guns, what changes? Do you move? Do you erect a steel fence between your properties? How does having that knowledge protect you and/or your family?

You give kudos to Fightdirecto for his post, yet what he seems to be advocating is an O.K. Corral scenario. Is that what you consider "safer" for you and your family?

"Parking dispute may have led to Maine shooting deaths: police"

How about special tags?

"Don`t fuck with me I`m armed" tags?

Might have saved some lives in this case?

I don't see how having tags on the car would have prevented the shooting. Apparently, the shooter shot the owner of the car (and his girlfriend).

read the threads on guns, it is quite clear for many people guns act as a penis extension, a sex toy, an aphrodisiac, a man badge. It is clear guns for many people are a sexual fetish.

If you have to carry a gun to feel secure, doesn't it tell you just how insecure you are? Does the idea that you would have to carry a gun not worry you about the depth of issues we have as a society? Lord knows, we wouldn't want to fuck with your ability to carry a gun, what's another threat to society as long as you claim to be a "responsible gun owner"....Right?

It depends on where you are Mark. If your job puts you in a neighborhood where people have been dragged out of their car and beaten or killed because of the color of their skin, going armed can simply be prudent.

47% of American adults are estimated to own a firearm. Turns out, that's about one-third of all Americans. (Source) How many gun owners are not out murdering, killing, or in any way being a "threat to society?"

If you choose to own a gun, I have no problem with that. If you choose to not own a gun, I have no problem with that. Would you really feel safer if there were no legal means to carry/own a gun? If so, how would that make you safer? If someone is going to attack, murder, harm, etc. someone, do you think that either a) not being able to get a gun is going to stop them, or b) not legally being able to get a gun is going to stop them from getting a gun and using it, is true?

Lanza didn't own a gun. He took his mother's. I believe I read somewhere that he was denied a firearm in the week or two preceding his event (only calling it an event to not further sensationalize it). Personally, I have no problem with background checks being required, though I might take issue with some of the flags in a check that disqualify (don't know what all disqualifies, so I can't say as I do disagree, nor that I don't). Lanza shot hundreds of rounds, using 30 round clips. More than likely, he might have been able to squeeze off 90% of what he did if he used 10 round clips, assuming he carried the necessary # of clips to do so. But, again, I don't have a problem with limiting it to 10 round clips, with the obvious caveat that all's fair during the Zombie Apocalypse.

Banning all guns isn't going to stop people from owning guns illegally. It's only going to stop people from owning guns legally. As the vast majority of gun owners (remember, 1/3 of the US population owns a gun) aren't using them in to kill other humans, you will be limiting a shit ton more law abiding Citizens than not.

quote:

and quite frankly, if someone does want to harm me, I at least have a fighting chance to escape and survive if its not a bullet (which I can't outrun)..

And, if someone sneaks up on you and sticks a shiv through your chest, you'll likely die a much slower and more painful death than had you been shot in the chest.

What happened in the US when we made alcohol illegal? Did that stop us from drinking alcohol? Sure as hell didn't. It just made some law abiding Citizens criminals. It stopped some, but those who really wanted to drink, did. Helluva racket for them Italians, too.
