Status: offline 		I was wondering if people in other cities or areas of the country have problems like this. The cable company stopped carrying the local CBS affiliate over failed negotiations because the TV station wanted to raise the rate for the cable company to carry the local channel.

There was a similar issue a few months back when Direct TV didn't carry the Pac-12 Network for the same reason. The network wanted more money than the cable/satellite provider was willing to pay.

Both sides are blaming the other. Cox is telling people to call the TV station, while the TV station is telling people to call Cox or switch to Direct TV. Of course, Cox is prohibited from replacing the local affiliate with the CBS affiliate in Phoenix or some other market, so that's not an option either. For some reason, I find this to be somewhat humorous, two corporations going at each other like that.

Has anything like this happened in other areas? Who would you blame more, the TV stations or the cable companies?

It's happened and is happening all over. The networks cannot live without the pay TV companies, and the pay TV companies cannot live without the networks. Without going into details of tiering, etc., the networks are demanding more money and they have no leverage unless they yank programming. During that time, each takes out advertising claiming the other party is being obstinate and unreasonable.

Despite what Hillwilliam said, this happens with satellite as well as cable companies.

Status: offline 		They're all greedy bastards trying to mine the coins from our pockets. It's really all bullshit too, because when they ask for increases in revenue it's only a couple pennies per subscriber. Cable companies make their profits from the rental of the hardware equipment (i.e.: converter boxes and dvr's) as well as the digital/HD ripoff. Satellite companies are pretty much the same.

Status: offline 		Yes. It's actually going on with Buckeye CableSystem and Fox affiliates in Toledo and Detroit. It can't hurt Fox that this is happening near the end of the NFL season and into the playoffs. People are going to get pissed at whichever isn't believed most.

Personally, "I have heard" there are ways around that on the intraweb thingy.
