Proprietrix -> Tips to help your Mistress beat the heat. (6/18/2006 7:29:06 PM)

I’ve spent most of today sitting in the blazing heat, unable to articulate anything of substance because I feel like my brain is sweating. I live in a three-river area. When the temperature rises here, the relative humidity really kicks in, and our heat index becomes unbearable to the point that our neighborhood begins to resemble nothing more than a groaning morgue in an oven. We’ve just gone under our first heat advisory for the year, and I’m sure there are plenty more to come.
I thought I’d offer a post on a lighter note than my usual banter, and give some sound advice about staying cool. This was written more for subs, but I posted here in case anyone would like to share it with their boys/girls. (And um.. because I tend to stay far, far away from the "ask a sub" forum.) It’s titled Tips to help your Mistress beat the heat, but it’s equally important that our submissives need to take care of themselves in summer months also. We all want to stay cool, but I think it’s important that our submissives recognize that they too should keep cool. Broken toys are no fun.
Hope someone finds it useful. And by all means, please add your own tips!

Buy her a sleeveless, short nightgown to wear. (Buy yourself one too!)
Keep her water glass filled. (Keep yours filled too!)
Keep the ice cube trays filled, or the bags of ice replenished, or the ice maker running properly.
Clean the fan blades and fan cover.
Check the air conditioning unit to make sure it’s working properly.
Offer her a cool wet cloth to wipe away her sweat. (Then use it to wipe away yours!)
Apply sun screen on her skin. (And then on yours!)
Offer her a sun hat. (And wear one too!)
Find the shady spot.
Politely insist that she put off strenuous activity until she is in air conditioning or during the coolest hours of the day. (And take your own advice!)
Draw the shades or curtains during the hours when the sun can shine through the window.
If you pick out any of her clothing, pick the loose-fitting outfits, lightweight materials and lighter colors. (Do the same with your own outfits!)
Offer this suggestion: If she takes showers to cool down, offer to lean in the shower every 3 minutes and turn the warm water down a few degrees. This will help her body slowly cool down and adapt to the cooler temperature, without having to step in a cold shower and risk shock. While you’re at it, invest in one of those shower heads for her, with all the fun gadgets for different sprays, streams, and water pressures.
If you and She don’t live in air conditioning, offer to drive her to a public building with air conditioning for a few hours each day. The library, the museum, the science center, the video store, etc. Be creative so it doesn’t become redundant and boring.
Try to serve drinks without alcohol or caffeine. Both of these contribute to dehydration. Water is best. Maybe serve fruit flavored water. (And drink some yourself!)
Serve smaller, lighter meals.
Take her swimming. Indoor pools (like the YMCA in many places) will prevent exposure to the sun.
Take her to an ice-cream stand and buy her favorite treat. (Go ahead, you have one too!)
Take her to the ice-rink.
Run her a nice cool bath with her favorite fragrances. (Try to avoid oils.)
Challenge her to a squirt gun fight. If she wins, you put away the toys. If you win, you get to put away the toys.
During sex, offer to change positions often so that no one person has to endure all the exertion.
Make sure her pets have plenty of water and a cool place to lie down. (That means cats, dogs, birds, ferrets, hampsters, and of course, subbies.)
Keep an ice-pack, wrapped in a towel, beside the bed. It can be used in various ways during the night, including cooling down her pillow. (And yours!)
Keep aloe vera gel on hand in case of sun burn.
Keep the lights low. Also, turning off electronics, such as computers and television sets, can help lower the temperature.
Avoid cooking. The oven and stove top raise the temperature. Try making her some sandwiches, salads, fruit trays, or other meals that don’t require cooking.
Make sure her attic can vent out.
Offer light massage. Massage promotes blood flow, which helps our bodies regulate temperature. Instead of using massage oils, try using baby powder.
Offer to braid her hair up for her.

Don’t forget to take care of yourself too.

Wonderful advice!! I live in the central valley. It's miserable here.

I actually havea few additions, if I may.

Do cooking at night, after it's cooled enough so it's bearable, and prepare enough for a few days.
Stock up on recipies that are as good/better cold than they are warm (We've discovered that cold cornish pasties rock)
Buy one of those "freeze your own" popsicle things and make up ones with the juice you like best. (lower cal and cheaper than real ones)
If your work is computer-dependant, set up extra fans to keep the machine cool. A room fan works as well as a case fan
If you have dogs or cats, make them pet popsicles--freeze LOW SODIUM chicken and/or beef broth in ice cube trays and give it to 'em.
If you don't have AC, figure out the air-flow patterns in your house, and arange fans to suck air through them. It can generate a nice cooling breeze if you point one fan -outside- to blow the hot air out and through.

How about reciting "The Cremation of Sam Magee" or "The Ballad of Dan McGrew" for her.  That should chill her to the bone.

Wow, those are great storys (poems) my daddy used to read them to me when I was a child. I spent a good part of my teenage years attempting to memorize The Cremation, but didn't suceed. Robert Service it really nice reading ^_^ Thanks for the warm memories.

(Sorry to have Hi-jacked the thread)

If She/He doesn't have AC.......buy Her/Him one!!!
If you aren't employed find a creative way to earn some cash just for that purpose. you can get at the least a room size one for 100 bucks or less, any left over proceeds you can offer up for the extra on the power bill. you'll find your special One will be much happier when cool and comfy in the scorching months ahead, what better way to say "i love and adore you".      The inverse of this is also good.  Head off to a nice air conditioned Wal-Mart or 99 cent store and put together a care package for a soldier in Iraq.   Daily highs there run 130-140 and the micro-climates of a gun position frequently hit 150.  Cheap, fun, disposeable squirtguns and waterbombs will make you a hero.  Insulated mugs are also very popular.

Ah, but then you have to find the money to pay the power bill every month, which becomes a problem when you live with a roommate that doesn't remember to turn -anything- off :)

We actually have AC over here, but running it would probably double our power bill/ We figure we'll get creative with the heat and save as much as we can.

Most if not all the tips a Dom can benefit from them as well. May I post those tips on “Ask a Master”?

Fill the bathtub with ice and offer to jump in first.

Cooking out on the grill to keep the heat outdoors also works well.

The best thing in the world to do is to travel to a higher elevation where the temperature is 30-40 degrees cooler. It is kindof a shock to come back down to the "warm" weather again. In Wyoming we don't have to deal with the humidity, but we have the heat. It is going to be a BAD summer here too because we have already had 4 spot fires in our forest, but with fires comes money for me. Which is a good thing that comes from the bad thing, fires.

My situation's a bit different. I live in an apartment in which the landlord pays utilities. He charges an additional $50 per month/per window AC unit. We installed one in the main room. Bet your ass I definitely run that thing enough to get my $50 worth!
The rest of the house, we use the heat beating tips.

aellea -> RE: Tips to help your Mistress beat the heat. (6/21/2006 9:09:56 AM)

Proprietrix... thank you for sharing your list and the others for adding to it.  sometimes i think we all forget to share those things to make others lives easier and this is a very important thing to reach out and give.  some might think that because it doesn't cost anything that it doesn't count... nope nope nope it does it does it does!!!

something i've heard and believe is that if you wish to cool down, drink a warm drink, this will make the body cool itself and the drink whereas drinking a cold drink will make the body try to warm the stomach and body.  the body likes to maintain an even temp.  ever take a warm shower on a hot day and come out chilly and all goose pimply?

ceiling fans are a wondrous thing or a subbie could fan a dominant.  i've seen small handheld fans that are attached to squirt bottles, i have one that i use when outside, it's truly wonderful that air and mist combined!

when lying down beneath that wonderful ceiling fan, an ice pack in a small towel to the back of the neck will do wonders.

wearing cotton instead of a synthetic like nylon, rayon, etc is a good thing.

go outside and have that water fight with the hose we've all joked about online!

when walking in the sun, use your umbrella and sunglasses.  umbrellas are not just for rain!

visit a friend with a/c and take something to snack on, from brownies or cookies they like to pizza or kfc!  make it a picnic with a floor cloth (tablecloth revamped) plastic or paper plates color coordinated to be festive (from a previous day's a/c trip to the store) food either cooked or bought and wine or even crystal lite or koolaid in a special chilled container. wine glasses or something fun.  your host won't feel imposed on if you treat them such!

if the cost of fancy restaurants are not in your budget, a drink and appetizer is totally acceptable without the meal.  you still get the ambience, the aromas and the taste especially with a comination appetizer.  drinks all around and a nice tip will see you welcomed back with smiles.

i have a million of these if you wish more just write!

Wow. That sounds -nice.- We have an AC in our appt, but we pay gas/electric, so it's just more than we can afford. I almost wish our landlord did it your way.

Drive her to her meetings and shopping and carry all the bags, even her purse or backpack.

Wait, I'm probably just thinking about this cause I'm home now after melting during my errands -- even though Fox did the above I had to trek across campus too where the car couldn't go still melting.
