I most likely messed up ...and posted to you rather than the group as a whole.

Not sure if people realize, but if the thread is pulled, the report will be missing.

And, yeah, I have a long report list.. and I have no doubt it will continue to grow.

Many have shown me there are valid reasons for reporting. I usually only visit the casual Banter forum so I am not exposed to many of those reasons.

If someone were to post child porn for instance I would be among the first to report it.

I am talking I suppose reporting bad behavior on this side only and the threads in these forums. Personally reporting in these forums for bad behavior is like feeding the troll. I will not give them the satisfaction of knowing they got under my skin.

I am also a very forgiving person. I understand how passionate people can be on some subjects and how short of patients they can be and their behavior worsens with their frustrations. When I see someone going overboard I just stop talking with them…simple no need to report.

I don’t even hide posters except to clear their posts so I can see others hidden within and then only temporarily…Otherwise I just ignore them and move on. I sincerely believe if more reacted this way to trolls they would quickly leave.

I started this thread just to try and find out how prevalent reporting is. By the answers I am getting I can see where Mods are overworked and often make mistakes with an overload of reports.

For some reason I always thought of reporting as a weapon used by those unable to deal with criticism. I still believe it is used that very way by some….But I also now understand there are many good reasons to report.

I've reported, on average, three posts a year... mostly for personal attacks, one for spam, and one for altering quotes... oh, and one for nonsense chit-chat in a thread after the mods started cracking down on people for not posting on topic. I thought it was unfair to allow some posters to carry on with frivolous hijacking, while penalizing others for not strictly addressing the topic of the thread.

I will say that reports I made for personal attacks were not on posts directed at me. Typically those were reserved for particularly vicious posters who got on my nerves after repeatedly attacking people with apparent impunity.

I dont know how it works, if someones post gets pulled if they are told who reported them (so they know who's skin they got under), I get the impression they are not told but I dont know for sure..

I dont like indirect personal attacks where the poster is allowed to continue insulting others without anything being done (by the mods) and imo it causes many people to not participate or leave entirely, it causes the forums to "decline" cuz many of the posters that are left are those that enjoy that "game".. So I take the viewpoint that not doing something about the abusive posters is worse than them knowing they got under someones skin.. imo, it encourages them to continue to behave badly.. but since they get by on the technicality of not directing insulting others, it will continue as it is.. which is a shame imo, but whatever.. I will continue to either do other things away from here or be very selective in what and whom I post to..

As far as I know they are not told who reported them...just the tos regulation that was broken. So perhaps I am just assuming who reports because usually the argument is between posters. But it is perfectly possible that a third party who is offended by the language may report the posters.

This did not occur to me because I could not care less about someone else’s argument...or language. I figure each can take care of themselves or they should not be posting in this type of forum.

I don't think I've reported anyone, at least recently. I used to get reported and received mini bans all the time on the other side though.

Nope no reports about other posters from me.

I have hidden gross pics on the other side for my poor sensitive eyeballs that do not wish to see that sort of thing ever.

I have reported everyone on this thread.

While posting this, I reported you all again, three more times.

I get Gold Letters every few minutes. I have been printing them out, and using them for quilt batting.

I have never reported anyone. To my knowledge I have never been reported or moderated or had the [Awaiting Approval] thing. I had a post pulled once when they were over moderating in the wake of one of the Florida "stand your ground" cases that we were not allowed to mention outside of that one thread but I don't recall getting a gold bordered letter in conjunction with it.

Just for fun with the Mods watching let me say…I have never been moderated….I have never reported anyone for anything.

Please for all to know… If you have never reported anyone on any thread please post your name below.

But keep in mind a Mod in a bad mood may call you on it if you lie.

Butch

Posts I've reported:

2008 - 1
2009 - 6
2010 - 7
2011 - 2
2012 - 2

That's 3.6 per year, average, since the first time I did it.

Twelve of the above 18 were for personal attacks/personal insults. (not all of the insults were directed to me, although some were) The rest were for thread hijacking. One was a dual, for hijacking and stalking.

I've also currently have three posters "hidden":

farglebargle
Real0ne
thompsonx

Occasionally, I have a fourth that I'll hide, but he currently isn't, so I'll not name him.

I've changed my opinion several times on "reporting" posts. At one time, I saw it as a "defeat", but eventually, I saw it as a needed assistance to mod housekeeping. Overused, it can hinder the mods by rising the noise level over signal strength.

Zero tickets. I reach for the [hide] button, not the [report] button. I just prefer to handle the problem simply and immediately and on my own. My attitude is that it's not my site and not my community. The site mods can do their moderation as they see fit. But I can immediately silence someone (for me). I do surely wish that the [hide] button also hid anything replying to someone I've hid but you can't have everything.

I have nothing listed there, nor do I even know how to report or put someone on ignore. I have, however been forced to block some people from continuing to send me messages. And thats the truth!

i've never reported anybody for anything on Collarme, but reported somebody on Fetlife--a user who made it all too clear that he was a sexual predator looking for children.

Yep, I've reported posts.

My ticket total is 27 since I joined.

I don't think I've ever reported a post for a personal attack on me though, as I generally take the view that it's better that those posts remain there for all to see.

I have reported posts that contain personal attacks on others, but mostly I report troll posts.

I'd go further and say that if you care about the boards, then you should be reporting posts that you think might be against TOS.

For those who are unsure if they have reported anyone, go to the upper right hand corner and click on ticket list.

So that's what a ticket list is! Yes, I've reported someone one time in the forums. It was Nj sub in July 2012 for advertising in the forum rather than his profile. I know that happens all the time, but I had just seen one too many fricking idiots cruising for partners in the forums that day. His thread was closed. I'm sure it won't be the last report I make though.

On the profile side, I've made multiple reports...pictures of gaping assholes, gaping pussies, and full frontal dicks....people bashing other users by name in their profiles and journals....profile references to b*stiality and underage sorts of things.

I did get a gold-bordered letter myself once. Judging by when I got it and what I'd been writing on the forums, one of Arpig's psycho bitches from hell had reported me when I stood up to "her" foolishness.

Thanks for the above, angelica.

I had totally forgotten, but yes I have, once. And when I re-read why, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

From what I can recall, I've never reported a boarder.

I've reported scammers on the other side and I'd probably report someone I thought was doing something vile and illegal or if someone was tossing someone's real details up on the board for everyone to see.

I really doubt the mods give a crap what people think about the moderation. People don't volunteer for this shit out of the goodness of their heart, they do it because it scratches an itch - even if that itch is just getting to throw their weight around with people they dislike. And one meltdown doesn't imply the rest of them are teetering on the edge.

Oh, and I've had posts reported more times than I can count. Certain posters had a habit of starting shit, then crying foul when they had their ass handed to them. And, of course, they had their little mod-friends, so.....
