I take a prescribed drug called Tramadol.
I know this sounds odd but it stops me from having orgasms.
Does anyone have any idea how and/or why.
Google has not been my friend with this one

Seems you are not alone. The most commonly suspected reason is that it is opiate based and, while mild, still acts like a narcotic in the body:

I take Tramadol too and never noticed this but I need it very rarely, perhaps a few times per year. Are you in pain daily? What's going on?

I don't know about tramadol so I don't know if there are other things on the market that would work, but my first stop would be back to the doctor to ask if there is an alternative you can try.

Lack of sexual response is a valid problem, don't be embarrassed to bring it up.

I dont take it every day but I had a cyst removed from my spine a few years ago and have been left with serious back problems. Ironically I take it when I hope to get "frisky" with Sir.

Ya, when I'm at the point when I have to take it the LAST thing I'm interested in is sex :)

Bite the bullet and talk to your doctor about an alternative.

Have you tried gentle yoga for your back?

I hate that pain medication with a passion!! Actually I try not to take anything more than Aleave or Excderin Migraine if I can help it...best remedy for my pain are orgasms. I feel so much better afterwards. I do have to take a muscle relaxant, Flexeril 10 mg when I get knots in my neck and shoulders that leds to a massive migraine. It doesn't seem to hurt me from orgasm though. If I know I am going to be in pain during a procedure, working-out when I am already hurting or whatever I take an Aleave or IB pain reliever although this may change soon. ;-)

Tramadol is used in men on occasion for premature ejaculation, so there's that. :-/

Study. Increased median fap time from 19 seconds to 243 seconds.

This study acknowledges the suppression of libedo/ function in men, but doesn't seem to pin the blame on the medication for women. However, it does mention the lowering of testosterone levels with continued use of opiates, which can certainly impair your sexual function.

Doctors don't mention that a side effect may be decreased libido or ability to orgasm because when they do, there are a lot more cases of it. People worry that such an outcome will happen and their worry causes it.

But there's no reason to be ashamed of telling your doctor about it. You won't be the first to bring this up.

I have a friend who takes it for migraines.

She's told me it has stopped hers at times as well.

I would say talk to your dr and see if you can find an alternative.

Doctors don't tell patients all the side effects of any medication other than the major ones. Patients need to also be responsible and read the paperwork that comes with the drug, where all those side effects ARE listed.

No one should be afraid to talk to their doctor about anything. Sadly, people are still embarrassed to discuss things that are basic human circumstances.

Last year when I was sick, and they basically ended up overdosing me on anti-biotics, I ended up with c-diff. Nasty thing that is. It certainly wasn't a bright moment to discuss with my doctor, but if I didn't, I wouldn't ever have gotten treatment for it.

I take tramadol for my pains (when I am not hitting the Norco) and noticed that my sex drive is not what it should be...dang it, I am a nympho! But then I am not in a relationship so I am not bothered by it.

Not just pain killers. I take Prazosin, and let me tell you, sex could be an absolute chore on it. However, yeah, I noticed when I was on Percocet it just about killed my sex drive as well.

I had/have a somewhat similar situation, and boy do the meds interfere with one's libido?! I can hardly stand it. M

Apologies for bringing this one back but as an update I thought I would.
I was contacted privately and told to query Pudental nerve damage.
I did...and it turns out it is the problem for me.
The painkillers are a problem but according to my neuro guy its highly likely its the Pudental nerve that was damaged.
At least I know

What makes tramodol so good for arthritis is that it is a long acting anti-inflammatory and neutralizes the pain response at the nerve level.

Soooo, it reduces feeling and reduces tumescence... yeah, it makes orgasms more difficult.

... Tramodol is for workdays. <grin>
