I sent you links of places in Sac that do those testing and like I said I know for a fact that Social Security can refer you to a therapist who does the testing.

I asked my dad about how I got diagnosed as a kid as all these things and what kind of testing did he have done on me and he got annoyed an said I don't know, . and when I said but I must have been tested, the school doesnt just pull learning disabled and SED and want me on ritalin just because it amused them, he snapped I don't remember the school did all that testing, we didn't have it done.

Most likely what happened is the school realized you had development problems and as schools are required to do, they told your parents that they needed to have you tested further to find out where you belonged or where to place you in classes and such. Your parents probably were not very happy about it, especially your dad but they probably only agreed to it because by law they either agree or they could be taken to court and have you removed.

Most likely this is why your dad gets upset when you ask questions. He doesn't want to think about it and is still bitter about it all.

Thank you. I have wondered why for a very long time he gets defensive if I ask any difficult questions. He got annoyed too when I insisted on asking why I was given EEkG tests an stuff as a kid. he just said it was so long ago he can't remember.

The school teachers noticed there was something off about me emotionally , yes, even as young as 8 and 9 and 10. in fact one of my teachers in 6th grade asked me point blank one day privately, if I was being molested and I actually told her no. I was to afraid of what would happen if I said I was.

TFB:
The inability to admit to abuse is a very normal response to have. In my experience most people who are abused had a very hard time talking about it when it was happening to them, let alone ever. I believe I read before in this thread that not only can you discuss it now, but that even as a child you eventually told someone and received help! I hope you know how rare and special you are for being brave enough to talk about it with someone at that time, and now. There are thousands of grown men and women who still can't talk about it with anyone, and certainly weren't able to do so as children when they were being abused. I'm so impressed and proud of you for being able to talk about it as a child. When things get tough, try to remember how strong you have been in your life. [;)]

By law, they have to question you and by law they have to report any suspicions. You must have been good at hiding it then. Otherwise they would have had to report it even if you said no. You were a minor. But they definitely by law had to report your learning disabilities plus they probably had no idea what to do with you or where to place you grade-wise. They would have had to have special classes created and materials for you.

They did that with my daughter. She was the opposite direction though...top of her class, smarter than the others, but she had social issues such as being extremely hyper sensitive. They had by law to create classes and materials for her, even one on one with a teacher because of her fears and shyness. In the end though it did no good and she dropped out and got her GED instead.

The school had to report such things to me and had by law to take action. Public schools have funding and to get that funding they have to meet certain criteria. This is one of them with students.

Little Wonder, we could start a whole thread on IEPs (Individualalized Education Plans) and schools reporting data, but I haven't had my blood pressure meds yet. I've talked to people who can't say enough good things about it, people who can't find a good thing to say about it, and people (me) who are filled with regret that they got bullied into doing things the school's way. Not to mention talking to the teachers about what they get bullied into doing.

Bureaucrats!!!

I agree Notsweet.
The discussion of IEPs and the public school system regarding those with special needs is it's own topic and one that I have mixed fillings on both as someone who worked in the field and as a parent of a special needs child. The system is flawed IMO and far to many children fall through the cracks and far to many parents get bullied or simply ignored because they don't know their rights within the system or how to fight back.

Not to mention the schools who will blithely label as many kids as possible to get the biggest grant--while spending as little energy as they can on the actual student.

I especially love the designation of ODD when applied to teenagers. For those who don't know, ODD means Oppositional Defiance Disorder. I knew teachers who refered to this as "Duh." Meaning, they're teenagers. If you've raised teenagers, you know that arguing is Job One for them. Are there some who have an illness? Sure, but in the vast numbers in that particular school district...I'd be checking the water if that was true.

I am so fucking exstatic, I could bust with joy and relief! I called care one and told them the plan they had me on was busting my chops and leaving me un able to buy food or do anything, and they anged my plan from repayment, at 300 to 145, and instead of 7 years this prog will take 2 years! Thank you so much to those who made it occure to me to talk to care one! It had not honestly occured to me before!

Wow, good job! That must feel like a huge weight off your shoulders. That's a huge difference and will really help your budgeting.

Quick, channel all of these positive emotions into getting something else done. Get yourself on a roll, one success after another.

It never occured to me to get retested or nothing. It never occured to me that there was educational programs, I dont typicaly have anyone to point these things/services out. thats part of the problem. I would never realize these things by myself, I need ppl to tell meNow that I know, I am indeed looking into it and following up!

You can also ask your therapist and or social security to assign you and advocate or help you find one. When I was in therapy, I had one who my therapist helped me get. She was a true blessing and her job was to look out for my best interest when I couldn't and help me do the things I couldn't on my own.
