thanks for your attention but I am not a damnned muslem and in Iran we say only salam or dorood as Hello.and how do you know that inbalance of men and women in Iran?!you are so fucking smart!but the imbalance never help me in this way because of strong religious background of society and a damnned dirty islamic totaliter government
and the exictance of male supermacy in Iran and .. and ... and..!

I didn't know that. I worked with a bunch of Iranian Americans and I had thought that I was speaking Farsi, not Arabic.

It was widely known that Iran lost a lot of young men and boys in the Iraq-Iran war, and my coworkers quietly acknowledged to me that polygamy was becoming prevalent in Iran due to the imbalance and because that's how women get supported.

unfortunatly persian language has been invaded by arabic very badly as same as they destroyed and are destroying the persian culture and our nationality in general.we are trying to replace this arabic frases such as' salamon alaykom' with the persian frase:dorood
and we say:khodaa Haafez or khodaa negahdaar which mean god protect you or be in the protection of god
although men were killed in that war but the fact is that polygamy is adviced by Islam strongly.every man can hold 4 legal wife and unknown number of slaves!it seems that Allah was a master!

Steph, the use of "fucking smart" is analogous to "wicked smart" in New England. As for the rest of his post... Iranians tend to be more vehement and less guarded with their speech than we Americans.

I think this intro thread is an excellent example of differences in cultures. This may be something that you would like to be aware of in the future.

thanks for your interest Lady Pact,I guess it's must be too icy in Alaska.is n't it?persian is a very simple and flexible language and you can easily learn it with using english letters,we name it Finglish!persian words with english letters.greeting in persian: salaam,khoobid? which means:Hello,are you ok(in good a shape)?

but yes the cultural differences and missunderstandings are exist and I am a insensitive guy.and here we can just see the words we can't hear them.

Quite icy in Alaska this time of year. Thank you for asking. What we call the break up (meaning the ice on the flowing river will break and and melt) is coming soon. Well, if one can consider "soon" being in the next couple of months. [8D]

OK, so Finglish is something like Spanglish? In other words, something of a mix of Spanish/Mexican and American English? I admit that I don't understand much of it. My only bilingual capabilities are in speaking American and Domme. [:D]

So, for future endeavors, would you be willing to expand My cultural horizons? How do we say, "Hello and welcome"?

yes ma'am.I like it and will be glad to help you.if you meant in persian(Farsi or Parsi) we can say: salaam va khosh Amadid=Hello and welcome
No finglish isn't like that.Finglish=Farsi words with English letters not mixing of tow languages and it's only in writing for exampl when I write:"salaam"
it is Finglish.in Iran we use it in syber space and also sending sms.it's completely informal but is very useful for english people to learn Persian(Farsi) quickly without
learning its letters :آ ب پ ت ث ج چ ح خ د ذ ر ز ژ س ش ط ظ ع غ ف ق ک گ ل م ن ه و ی
persian grammer is very easy,there is no He and She or any differences between male or female or sometimes things!actually we don't consider the sexuality of anything in persian.
