Master is considering a vasectomy.  We already have a family and whilst I am still able to have children we do not want any more, any we are not getting any younger!

We only use condoms as a form of birth control and we are both worrying that one day our luck will run out with them.  However, Master is nervous about getting this done (quite rightly!).  Do any of you have any words of advice that might smooth his way?

Plan to take the next day off!  "Some tenderness" bullshit... it hurt.  However, it was well worth the effort.  I even did sperm counts myself with a borrowed microscope.  It was so reassuring to see .... nothing!!!!

Jameson Irish Whiskey thru the ice is the trick.

Do not cross your legs for awhile.  As the medicos can tell you, one hangs lower and slightly in front of the other for this reason. With them rolling around in there, they kinda lose their place for awhile.  They get better tho.  The death rate is less than 50%  LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

It is not a huge deal.

First, lets address what you are doing right now. I used to be a birth control educator in college and can tell you that condoms by themselves are not recommended as a form of birth control. When you use condoms, we were intructed to inform you that they should be combined with a spermacide such as a foam or jelly to increase their effectiveness. This can increase efficacy from the 80th percentile to the 90th percentile. Source of this information was a book called Contraceptive Technology.

In terms of the procedure, my experience was that the pain afterwards was not intense or acute. I would not want someone else to be scared of doing it for that reason. I was swollen and just gentle with myself for a while. I was awake during the procedure and remember the sting of the initial shot to numb me. After that, there was only the general tugging and movement down there. It is kinda like being at a dentist after novacaine, where you know they are in there doing something but you are ok. I would recommend a sedative (such as Valium) to keep you calm, as it took them a while with me (maybe an hour or more) and exhausted my patience. It was a relief to see my partner waiting for me in the receiving room.

My sperm counts were done professionally at the lab. I would not rely on my own microsope as the only source of information, but it might be interesting for curiousity. Insurance covered the procedure and follow ups. For at least a month afterwards, you must use an alternate form of birth control until you get the go ahead that all is clear. You may also request a copy of the paperwork of the lab results, as it came in handy after my divorce to prove to future partners that I was not lying.

Sterilization is the most effective form of birth control and was important to me for peace of mind. No more worrying about the side effects or compliance requirements of other methods.

Just make sure it's done right. After all, some testies are known to repair the connection and you're right back to not knowing what can and can't happen. After the procedure, it would never hurt to go back for a check up every six months for the next two years just to be on the safe side.

Other than that, sex and having errections will be normall. However, the taste of cum may have a slight change due to there not being semen.

Anyways, it's safer for the male to be fixed rather than the female having her tubs tied or a hysterectomy. Men have a faster recovery time and a much less risk of ending up with nerve damage.

I had a vasectomy about 5 years ago with no ill effects. They will tell you there is a higher incidence of testicular cancer among men who have had the preoceedure, but I believe the increase in minute.

Have him scheduled for a Friday so he can rest and take it easy over the weekend.

I had it done in 1992 and actually went into the office for a few hours afterward. The most difficult aspect was removal of the little clamp things, I think it was day later. Most likely they use something completely different now. It wasn't painful at all but the thought of what was going on created "mental" pain. Maybe because I was expected it to be worse, it wasn't bad. Or maybe I was in "sub-space"?

<fast reply>

I had mine done in 93.  I remember being extremely anxious, rightly so.  The thought of someone down there with a scalpel and clamps was not appealing.

I was offered valium before the procedure and declined, since I had to drive myself home afterwards and did not know what the effect might be.  I had never had anything like that before.

The whole procedure was rather anticlimactic.  The worst part was the initial sting of the needle while numbing.  Once the area was numbed I sat up a little and watched the whole thing.  Strange, I know, but it was pretty cool to see.

I went home and thawed out several bags of frozen veggies over the weekend, and was back to work on Monday with very little tenderness.  There was hardly any pain over the weekend.  Besides the needle, the worst part was the embarassment of going in to give samples to confirm the procedure (I was rather shy and not near as open then as I am now).  It didn't help that the majority of the nurses at this particular office were total babes!  Come to think of it, maybe that did help with producing the sample... lol.

I had this procedure done 4 years ago and had a bad experience that went like this.

During the procedure, the doctor said "damn" and I looked at his frustrated face and began to cringe.  "Anything wrong" was all I was able to squeak out of my once bass voice.  "Yes, the tube I am going to clip has gone in hideing and I have to search and dig for it".  It was at the exact moment that I watched him poke his finger into my "sac" and dig around like searching for the last peanut in the jar, that I questioned my choice.
The other thing is for some odd damn reason when I got home that night I was convinced that "it" would no longer work.  Having to test this theory was a mistake, as my brat so kindly reminded me the next day that it was indeed a mistake.  I also went back to work the next day in hopes of taking it easy and collecting my pay anyway, WRONG.
To make a long story short, by the time I got home that evening I was carrying them in the house as if they were extra luggage, and they were I might add.   I struggled with these two foreign objects that screamed at the slightest  sound, movement, or  wind direction change for two weeks in pure agony.
Let us not forget the "collection" of a sample for testing, that I carried all the way through the entire main floor of the hospital looking for the right individual to give it to.  None of which seemed pleased to receive my "gift".

All in all, I wouldn't change a thing, because now I can sling that shit around everywhere without the fear of pregnancy.

Just thought I would share.

Did it hurt, yes, especially when I got home and my small dog jumped onto my lap.
Was there bruising, yes, my whole crotch was black.
Was it worth it, yes.
And I did cycle very gently (without sitting down on the saddle) a mile to work the next day.
I will also report that 2 days later, gentle masturbation from the wife was possible.  Never looked back since.

Thanks everyone for your comments and sharing 'yours' with us.  He is going to the Doctors after the summer holidays to arrange it (or so He says!)

Best decision I ever made.

Make the appointment on Friday and go back to work on Tues. As John said it DOES hurt
and there's swelling to contend with too.

It's a very easy office procedure. I had mine 20 yrs ago and was only  $350 then. It should still
be reasonable if insurance doesn't cover it.

I'm definitely having this done before my next serious relationship. I'm finally old enough for the doctors not to give me grief over it.

And seriously, if I want to hear the patter of little feet-I'll get a dog.

fast reply...

Pain is relative to the person experiencing it. I have two friends who had vasectomies and experienced no pain(one of them had his wife give him a blow job later the same afternoon as the surgery)....one who said it was the most painful thing he had ever experienced....and one who claimed to be in a lot of pain but who confided to my ex that he really wasn't in pain but it was a good time to play on the sympathies of his wife and get all the extra attention he could. I would expect that your experience with it will be individual to you.

I just wanted to post about “whether or not should I undergo a vasectomy operation”. Well I got all the answers I needed.

Just had my vasectomy today.

There were a couple of complications (as in the cord was slipping several times) but in all it went well.

For the next week or so my diet will be freshened up with some antibiotics and that is all.

Hope everything works out fine.
