ORIGINAL: joether An so I was simply going to all the various news sites while bored out of my mind yesterday. An on the list of various sites, was an article from the Drudge Report: City Wants Power to 'Disarm Individuals' During Crisis... Of course 'The Drudge Report' link is to none other than Alex Jone's site. Cus we all know Mr Jones' is 'fair, balanced, and most of all, completely honest' with the information on his site. Now this particular article does mention the source of the information from an actual news report on the subject. Unfortunately, it fails to correctly inform the public on the full details. And by full details, I mean one sentence (see below). I can only speak for myself, but I will say that damn near anything Alex Jones puts out or touts either doesn't grace my monitor, or is looked upon with an eye to find out what he's claiming as a start to my looking for the truth. quote:
So I decided to try to find what the exact details of this proposal were. Just inputting the city and concept gave me a few hundred conservative sites. All of them giving much of the same crappy 'news reporting' Alex Jones did on his site (or worst). It took me at least a few dozen hits before I hit pay dirt! But along the way I was just amazed if not stunned of the number of conservative media sites that simply failed to report the actual details, but instead focus on spewing 'fear', 'hatred of the goverment', and 'plain insane trash'. An conservatives are all to happy to bash the Liberal Media, yet do not hold their own news sites to even 1/100th the same accountibility and responsibility of said liberal media. I just find it amusing when conservatives bitch about the liberal media 'this' or 'that', arguing its all bais and fake. Yet, demand freedom of the press. Well, they demand 'conservative' media, which agrees with their political viewpoints (an often run counter to the facts it seems). That's not entirely true. Fox News Channel, as far as I know, is the only National news channel that has a conservative bent. The last time I had it on for anything other than flipping through channels was Election night. quote:
So what was the issue? Ok, the Alex Jone's article only gives 50% of the details. This is the first half: As provided by Alabama State Code, any law enforcement officers acting in official duties may disarm and individual if deemed necessary. That by itself, yes, I can see why all the conservative media sites are all up in arms (not to mention scores of conservative gun owners). Of course, either they are all morons and didnt vet the information for accuracy; or wage a conspiracy on their audience, fully knowing the following sentence does exist: The officer must return the firearm to the individual before leaving or arrest the individual. SOURCE That's right, I found the full details of the proposal from a non-conservative media site. This thread isnt about the 'pros' and 'cons' of the proposal itself. But asking the plain and simple question of why do conservatives not hold their media sources to a better level of journalism? I find most news sites will try their best to inform the public of the news as they know it. And when they get it wrong, they apologize and try their best to correct the mistake. They realize its important to maintain integrity in reporting information to the public. But conservative media, even long after its been brought to their attention that they reported on bad information, contuine to report the now wrong and incorrect information. For example, FOX News does this on such a regular basis that other sites of sprung up to explain what FOX stated, why it was wrong and give the correct information. I listen to conservative talk radio when I listen to the radio. That constitutes probably an average of maybe an hour a day. Consider you have damn near 50% of the time is commercials, that's only 30 minutes a day of conservative talk. If something jumps out at me, I will look it up. Drudge is a good place to start. It usually has links to the story in some way shape or form, and provides details that make looking up the actual truth easier. In general, I get my "big news" from here more often than not. Someone will post something and I'll dig into it if it strikes me as interesting. I lurk in some threads and ignore others.
