And what do you play?

Piano/keyboards, 4 and 5-string fiddle, guitar, piano accordion and soon, diatonic button melodeon (yikes, I hope I have the coordination to figure out when to push/pull!)

Sound out!

I sing, used to play trumpet, and can plunk out (one fingered) a tune on the piano.

I used to play the drums but sold my kit.
I've been thinking of taking up bass actually.

Hmmm, I've also got a south american flute
which I'm hopless at.

Thats the extent of my musicalness.

I used to play trumpet a LONG time ago in high school. Even did marching band. Played keyboards, guitar, and base in a few cover bands in the 80's and 90s... Still have nightmares of being up on stage playing cure, depeche mode, etc, though no eyeliner. Still have the old Roland around here somewhere...

I used to play, of all things, bass clarinet, and was a proud member of the city symphony orchestra. One of the highlights of my time with them was sharing a stage with Eugene Fodor and actually having a solo during the concert starring his performance. Life moved on, we left that city and I never pursued a professional music career again as the kids started coming and so forth.

I used to play the violin and piano, but now I am rusty. I still sing pretty well though! I also play African drum like nobody's business.

I sing, and play clarinet and saxophone (they're so similar, who cares =p - but i prefer tenor sax), piano, violin, lap harp, and a liiiittle guitar. i'd love to start taking classes again, just for the fun of it.

Guitar and violin, but I'm actually pretty rubbish at both and have never had formal lessons. I love music, I just have no talent. I also sing all the time, but again, pretty rubbish.

I had a scholarship in college to play trombone in the marching band and bass clarinet in the concert band. Unfortunately, I never owned either instrument, so I haven't really kept up with it.

I can sing, and I can play a little bit of piano, too.

I play the violin. Not professionally. I've always wanted to learn drums and piano. Maybe one day.

Piano and fiddle. I played percussion in high school. Even went to music camp for it. I miss playing in an orchestra, but percussion is expensive and takes up a lot of space. I can play a couple of chords on the guitar, but I'm not as versed in it as I would like.

Once I have my own house, I will get my parents piano. *sigh* one day....

I would think the violin would be enough. I still here stories about how many would love to play it but [it] being so difficult...took up something else.

I forgot to mention I tried to teach myself the recorder ( a woodwind instrument ). I still have it, a book and a scale sheet, somewhere around here!

Does anybody remember learning the tonette, prior to starting band?

Same here...damn I am so jealous of those that can play...I screeched a clarinet and drums in my school band...I passed hard to believe but football and baseball took over my passion.

The violin was not very difficult for me. I did have a short-lived attempt at the flute but that didn't go very well.
I'm left handed so that may have some play into why it was easier for me to learn.
I've heard if you know how to play a violin, learning the piano is not extremely difficult. I don't know how true that is.

Mistress, I'll bet you're darned evil good with that fiddle. Your strength, clarity, simplicityl kindness and compassion always comes through in your posts, which I'm sure would translate into your playing style. Wish I could see and hear you play. Have you any tapes of yourself to share with us?

Musical regrets here. I was born with a strong vocal and instrumental musical bent, began playing piano by ear at the age of two (as soon as I could reach the keys), and later on took up the clarinet and acoustic guitar in the same way.

Too much prolonged inner and outer abuse and trauma in those early (and later) years shut me down and off for a long, long time. One of the many resulting casualties was a disconnect and a lack of desire to pursue it (and other important matters) further.

Nearly 50 years later, I look back and wonder what might have become of those talents and me, given a different path and opportunities and grieve the loss.

I am pleased, and affectionatly envious of you, Mistress. Play away, dear lady!
