atheists for me, are obvious, not very hard to pick out even if they are in the closet. The simplest conversations, their mannerisms, their etiquette, morals, etc....are going to be radically different from mine. Then again, when I casually talk to people the conversations always lead to something where their atheism is as obvious as the sun.

Once again, how would you know if you're right about that?

Furthermore, that's not even every atheists position, I mean an apatheist isn't going to tell you that because it's not what they think. And if you think that someone who's in the closet's going to tell you that atheism is as obvious as the sun, you should probably look up what in the closet means.

Also, if you confront them with a large, shiny silver crucifix they will begin to bleed from their eyes and collapse to the floor and thrash about in a paroxysm of horrendous agony.

Unless you are simply making up a pretzel logic definition, it is impossible to take the above statement seriously.

Once spotted they should be reported to the local Inquisitor and put to the dunking stool test before burned or stoned.

Now that you and GotSteel have had your fun at littlewonder's expense, I'll just mention in passing that I seriously doubt anyone having a conversation with either of you who happened to mention Jesus, the Bible, or God, would have the slightest difficultly telling that you were Atheists, even if you didn't actually say so.

Nobody here ever has.

Yup. I always wear my scarlet letter on my sleeve for all to see.

I invite littlewonder to explain how her ethics and morals are different from mine. Cuz, yanno, we all love being put into that little "different" box.

I went for the 'as moral as the non-religious' option. I've met people of differing religions who really made me question if they had any spec of decency in them, and then I've met the non-religious who are upstanding and good members of society as a whole. And, of course, vice versa.

That is easy: she is a slave. You, if I recall correctly, are a sub, and GotSteel is - I surmise - a dom. Thus her psychology in part is alien to that of your's and GotSteel's. She is an innately ethical being. The both of you are not.

Indeed, it does have something to do with atheism.

Since you asked:

Let's just say my views on sexuality, I am going to bet are the very opposite of yours. I really have no idea since I don't keep track of your beliefs but I'm going to bet they are since my views are biblically related.

I'm also going to bet my beliefs on submission of wives to their husbands is different than your beliefs. Let's see, there's also the belief that you put God and your love of God into your every thought, every act, before all else, keeping away from gluttony, marriage is to be honored and celebrated as a covenant between God and the couple, honesty in business, do not gossip...just to name a few....

And even if we did share the same morals, WHY I have my morals are most likely completely different from yours and that really does matter for me. It's the intention, not the action.

Morals are the basis for intention. They are not the action. So, from whence cometh our morals is immaterial if they are similar, except to allow someone to feel superior by pointing to a book or god as source.

ETA . . . sorry. Didn't mean to be mean. If your love of your god guides you then all well and good for you. But, I can come to similar moral 'oughts' through my covenant with Humanity.

If three people, one a Christian, one a Buddhist and one an atheist, each choose to help a poor person why does the intention matter at all? Aren't each of their actions "good" as we would think of "goodness". Or are the Buddhist and atheist just "evil" because of their intention being different from yours? Does this mean when the Buddhist and the atheist help a poor person, that they are doing "evil" because their intentions don't match your religion? I'm just a bit confused about how actions don't matter. Does this mean if someone kills someone in the name of god that that is okay because their intention is "good". In other words we shouldn't judge actions, just intentions, and the intentions of anyone who shares your faith is automatically "good" and the intentions of everyone else is automatically "evil"?
