It will be my everything, so it should have a huge ginormuse storage capability, and be really fast.

I prefer bigger screens like 17 inch, inch and I'd love it if it was light weight but sturdy.

I was also going to look for wireless internet anywhere I go, and not just at places like Starbucks, or McDonald's.

Any suggestions.

How exactly do you think you can afford this laptop?

I suggest you put a little money away every month. In about a year or so, you will have some money saved and you can look around and see what you can afford.

Don't buy a laptop!! lol.

Seriously.....
If you want huge storage, you won't find it on any laptop.
Why? because they just don't have the space inside to have huge hard drives.
The absolute best you could ever get (and that's assuming you upgrade to the biggest possible 2.5" HD) is a 1TB (500GB).
That isn't exactly 'ginormouse' to me.

As for 'really fast' - that ain't gonna happen much, not in a laptop.
Again, best you could get is probably a low-end i5.
They are ok... but not 'really fast' IMHO.

Just my [sm=2cents.gif]

17 inch monitor, plus large amount of storage, means it will not be one off the light weight laptops. You can get a customized laptop that had a large amount of hard drive space, in raid config, for example, with all the bells and whistles. I know, I've bought one before. And it cost me over 3k for it. Of course, it did have multiple hard drives in raid config, multiple dvd (writable) drives, multiple fire wire ports, a crap ton of USB ports, a 17 inch wide screen monitor, and lots of other great features. You get what you pay for.

It was not light weight, by any means.

What you are looking for is going to be in the $2000 to $3000 range. Wouldn't that money be better spent working on becoming independent?

I got ripped for my "people on public assistance with $200 phones but they don't have food in the pantry" comment but I'm going to say it again.

Please learn the difference between what you want and what you need.
Food, shelter and transportation are priorities.

And here's the thing, OP, that you need to consider. You can get a portable (as in the size that will fit in your pocket or purse) 1TB external hard drive pretty cheap now and days. So you don't have to buy a computer with a large amount of hard drive space. If you get a laptop with a decent graphics card in it, as well as a decent sound card and the settings on it are configured properly, you also don't have to have a large monitor to watch movies or videos on it and see them very well. It's a matter of having the good graphics card, and the settings being done properly to take advantage of the card properly. Same goes of the sound card.

If you don't know anything about computers, get one of your friends that do to assist you. Tell them your budget, what you're using it for, including programs you intend to install on it. That is important because certain programs require a minimum amount of RAM in order to work, or a certain type (minimum) of graphics card.

FR
I read the OP and just knew someone had a new username.

You get the equivalent desktop for $500 or less but a laptop of that kind will cost more like $1000.

Might that much money be better saved so you could get a place of your own?

It'll hopefully be a gift. But yes. I'm saving up for it if not.

Yea, larger screens are not necessary, but I do feel like it would be less eyestrain. It will be replacing my desk top totally.

Ow about surface pro. It's all the rage on commercials now.
