So you would not have allowed in folks like thomas jefferson, john adams or patrick henry into my country

Thomas Jefferson was born in this country, Albemarle County, Virginia

John Adams was born in Braintree, now Quincy Mass.

Patrick Henry was born in Virginia....

So, pray tell, how would you have prevented them from entering the country? Abortion?

They were aspiring terrorists when they came into the country?!? Seriously? And, I would also like to point out that Jefferson and Henry were born in Virginia and Adams was born in Boston, so, technically, they would be more apt to be called "home grown" terrorists, if you are going to demand they be called terrorists (which I wouldn't).

Most people who read my statement would have considered that those named were, by the time of the revolution, terrorist or supporters of terrorist by any streach of the imagination but you in your typically peurile fashion want to move the discussion away from what you cannot defend...namely your asanine comment...and choose instead to discuss where they were born and not the fact that if they were to apply for access to my country you have said you would deny them....

Did you see the emoticon I used after my original statement? Here, lemme quote myself:

Just so I am clear, I am not in favor of preventing any race, ethnicity, or religious affiliation from entering the country. I am completely against allowing aspiring terrorists to enter the country. And, I don't think there is any specific question on the student visa application. I think it's high time we changed that... [8D]

The men you named didn't come into this country looking to commit acts of terror (even ignoring that their entry into the country was via birth). Thus, they weren't aspiring terrorists now were they? Plus, let's also consider that they fought for their rights and the rights of their fellow citizens of the colonies. They didn't go into England and commit acts of terror, did they?

And, so we're clear, since there isn't a question on visa applications as to whether or not the petitioner is an aspiring terrorist, there is no way for us to know whether or not someone is an aspiring terrorist. While I don't want aspiring terrorists to come into the country, I have no problem with foreigners gaining entry to the country (through legal channels, of course).

My point was that they were born in this country, they did not immigrate to the colonies. In other words, your example is flawed, if not outright false.

Considering that there were people from history that were involved in the revolution and the events leading up to it that were not born in the colonies, they would be a better example.

Why do you think that question would be productive?

An english colony not the u.s. please try to keep that straight.

Since the colonies were part of gb yest hey did commit acts of terror against the crown.

Why do you make this requirement ...it was not a requirement for the founders?

I have it straight. For your examples to be accurate, they would have had to go to England to commit acts of terrorism. They didn't do that, did they? They were fighting for their homeland, in their homeland. Neat how that works, innit?

Show me how the requirement applied to the Founders. Last time I checked, we don't have visa applications for fetuses.

Your point is obtuse. They were not born in the u.s. They were born in britt colonies, none of which is germain to this discussion. What is germain is that from history we know they were revolutionaries/terrorists and as such I asked if they would be denied entry today? You and he want to try to pick fly shit out of pepper...if that is your desire then please proceed but without me.

Considering that there were people from history that were involved in the revolution and the events leading up to it that were not born in the colonies, they would be a better example.

Opinions are a lot like assholes...everyone has one and most everyone feels that theirs works best for them. I chose those examples because they are some of the most easily recognizable figures from our revolution. Where they were born is not relevant. That he would deny them access to the u.s. today is the point I am making. If you failed to notice that then perhaps you might want to read my post a little more closely.

Okay then: how about John Wilkes (who'd fled England -as it was then- to avoid arrest by King George), and the various Jacobins who fled the Paris commune for the American colonies after the Girondins consolidated power and took over? Terrorists or not?

To the English, they were terrorists, in their eyes they were patriots. However, today, Islamic extremists admit to using terrorist tactics and they consider themselves freedom fighters.

Of course Faux news wants every Mosque bugged and wiretapped, and Coulter wants Muslim women arrested for wearing traditional clothing.

I guess that is okay, if we also arrest every right wing extremist as well.

Moonhead -> RE: Fox News Shreds The Constitution (4/28/2013 3:16:59 PM)

The observation that one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter doesn't actually answer my question, which I thought was pretty simple, even for somebody who can't understand the rules of cricket:
Were the Jacobins and Wilkes terrorists who were allowed to enter your country with impunity, or were they not? If you're not having them over a split hair, how about Gerry "Sein Feinn are nothing to do with the provos, honest" Adams who spent the first six or seven Saint Patrick's day of this millennium invited to the white house until somebody pointed out to the chimp that doing so was a bit at odds with the war on terror?
