that was general speaking - so don't blame me !!!

BTW there is no 'quote' or any other signs directing to you. and the "(in reply to kdsub)" does the system by itself.

Oh hell Vince....the world has never been a better place for the poor...and it is getting better all the time...And big business global economies are the reason for their increase in living standards nothing else... Certainly Not government entitlements.

Butch

I never said anything about government entitlements. Don't straw man me, Butch.

The world has never been a better place for the poor? That's sorta like saying the slaves were happy to be taken out of Africa and given the opportunity to work in the Southern Confederacy.

The population of the poor is following the Malthusian curve. The 'wealth' for their basic needs cannot keep up.

we use the FR designation [top left] when making a non-directed statement.

No problem tallboy... but for your info it is the usual protocol to click "Reply" or "Quote" to the poster you want to direct your response or if responding to the original poster click on his Reply or Quote to reply to them. It limits confusion as to who you are directing your response.

No straw man...did you not say this:" Workers are in the streets to protest against imposed austerity in Madrid, Italy, Athens, and Istanbul"... Are these not because of withdrawal or reduction of entitlements? Perhaps I misunderstood.

Mostly it is for reduced wages and lost jobs, and in Bangledesh for worker safety, Butch. And in places like Greece and Spain for devaluation of their savings. But, you are right. Some have had their pensions destroyed.

How is this the fault of business?...Why and how is the population growing? I'll tell you because their overall wealth and wellbeing is growing not shrinking. Now when resources may run out to support the world population is a whole different can of worms.

Actually, history shows that when well-being increases population size decreases. Western Europe and the United States have had a declining birthrate since 1950. So has Japan.

freedomdwarf1 -> RE: May Day 2013 (5/2/2013 12:03:55 PM)

I think it's mainly because of high job losses.

Those countries are typically (and historically) top-heavy.
Too many chiefs, not enough indians.

So the austerity is cutting services and chopping those from the top of the pile.
Also, those who were in a 'job for life' where once employed, never likely to get booted out.

Many of the entitlements were trimmed also but the main agression was against the job cuts.
At least that's how I heard the news here.

kdsub -> RE: May Day 2013 (5/2/2013 12:04:23 PM)

That is not why they are rioting... it is because their governments had to renege on their entitlements. As far as Bangladesh their yearly wages and quality of life are the best they have ever been. And unless I am mistaken the building owner is now in jail...Would that have happened 10 years ago?

Butch

kdsub -> RE: May Day 2013 (5/2/2013 12:06:06 PM)

As will the third world...damnn give them a chance their livelihood has just taken off... not even a generation has gone by yet.

It happened now because the people demanded his arrest. No thanks to the garment industry.

No, the third world is trying to ease their overpopulation problem by emigrating to the West and North.

That is my point... with jobs...with income...with business... with a relative middle class emerging...they now have the power to demand changes... This is an important step up for these people and all because of business you so demean. Perhaps I should say in spite of the business.

Would you not agree that in general with increased wealth family sizes decrease?

Middle class? In Bangledesh? No. Unions, yes.

kdsub -> RE: May Day 2013 (5/2/2013 12:13:27 PM)

Yes... relative to the past there is now an emerging middle class. And where have I ever said I was against unions. I am very much for unions when employers are abusing their workers.

Now I pressed "quote" - but that doesn't help, due to the fact: it was general speaking

'Reply' or 'quote' makes no sense for single statements

kdsub -> RE: May Day 2013 (5/2/2013 12:16:05 PM)

When you speak in general you are addressing the original posters point and should reply to them.. But go ahead do as you please.
