I've seen this topic before, and I've heard both sides, and alternatives... But it's been discussed in My family, and the consensus is the same.

W/we (3, possibly 4 of U/us) would like to carry a matching family mark. W/we've discussed it over and over and W/we've come to decide on a particular brand. It's an EXCEEDINGLY simple tribal silhouette and I've done hours of research about various techniques, what to and not to do, how to design, and health/safety concerns revolving around things like closed loop patterns, over lapping, depth, temperature, duration, etc.

I have even tried on leathers and pig butts.

I've concluded I simply cannot do it to Myself, or My girls. However, W/we still want it done.

My question is this: does anyone in the North Los Angeles / South Ventura county area know of an artist or studio who has MINIMUM 10 years experience in this? I'd prefer electo-cautery or cold to multi, or single strike. Should I not find anyone locally, is there any particularly good method, or research material that will improve this skill? I refuse to have it done untrained or unskilled, and I've been nagged for about a year over the subject. So, this summer I'd like to get it done.

For all you nay sayers:
Unfortunately, I am emotionally against tattooing, as there was a death in the family resulting from one. A) don't care what you say has changed as far as standards go, it's engraved in My mind as a childhood scar, and b) I don't care what you think as far as how "stupid it is." It's simply not an option, and My family had accepted this and picked another avenue. Respect O/our decisions please.

I'm not from there so I can't advise, but can I tell you how refreshing it is to have a story like this end with the person making a responsible decision to let a professional do it?

I hope that doesn't sound patronising, seriously, I was expecting this story to end in an amateur attempt with a hot paper clip and I wish everyone had your sense.

This is definitely not something I am into, and I understand your views on tatoos (ok, no I don't), but I would think a long established tattoo parlor who is also experienced in other forms of body modification would be able to help you.

You might consider taking a trip to Phoenix and seeing Steve Haworth.

it can be done in other ways than strike brand one is using a violet wand and the attachment for branding it looks like a pencil also can be done using a electro cautery pen i use bovie it is used in surgery to stop bleeding and leave a mark lasting for months and if redone several times will be permanent. another is to use a medium gauge coat hanger and boiling salt water it leaves a 1st degree burn that can last for several weeks or more.

You're looking for a guy who goes by the name PantherProwls. He's actually in San Fransisco but if I were looking for someone in CA, that would be My go to person. Folsom Street Fair is just a few months down the road. (Sept) He'll probably be vending there, anyway.

Here's a link for you. http://www.pantherprowls.com/Home.php

Thank you all so far, the respect and politeness is deeply appreciated!

I will consider the two people mentioned, but I'd prefer to collect as many as possible and select whom W/we feel most comfortable with. Ideally, I'd like to visit these people individually then select one from there. I realize that's a tall order when we're talking 350-400 miles away, which is why I kind of want to stay local. I do appreciate the help, though, and if someone closer doesn't pop up, I will be visiting both! Haha.

Thank you Oside,

I have seen this company/person before. I was looking at the 22 strike brand, and had concerns over the depth/width of the brand they made. it came out HUGE

Though, the cutting looked FANTASTIC haha. I was definitely an option, and I'm glad to see theres some support for that particular company here. I wish they had a better portfolio posted online...

I love scarification and think it looks beautiful. I genuinely wish I scarred better. Unfortunately the only person I know of is in Edmonton, Canada, beautiful portfolio of scarification and branding... not sure if kink friendly but nice work, they're who I'd go to, but a little too far away for you, I think!

Scarification might not be as mainstream as tattooing but a lot of body modification places will have people who specialize in multiple forms, I'd check portfolios. I don't see why anyone should judge you for wanting scars instead of tattoos, anyway... for me my obsession with scarification is the whole outcome of forcing your body to create the art from a wound, the natural response creating a completely original piece of art made possible by your body's healing process... it's beautiful.
