I've heard about kneeling on grains of rice (presumably uncooked!) as a punishment.  And about kneeling on similar uncomfortable items.

Does this do any long-term damage?

Comparing with glass hummmm… lol don’t worry friend, I don’t think there would be any long-term damage.

It depends on how much time you spend doing it. The knees do not have much padding (hardly any to be honest) and yes.. you can bruise the area. Doing it for short amounts of time and not frequently is not going to damage anything.. doing it alot will cause some problems. As with all things.. moderation is the key.

Make sure it is brown rice you are kneeling on. It's much healthier.

My Mistress has several large pecan trees in her yard. She has me gather the pecans when they fall and hull the nuts out for her to use in cooking and backing. She also has me save all the pieces of shells and has me place these on the floor of the hall closet. These sharp hulls can be very uncomfortable to kneel on or try to curl up on when She has me sleep in the closet while She entertains others more worthy than myself.

Good point.  There's not enough discussion of the macrobiotic approach to BDSM.

Broken up pieces of uncooked spaghetti can have a similar effect.

This is one thread I'm NOT sharing with my Dom.  He really doesn't need any encouragement.

Uncooked spaghetti, huh?  The kitchen is definitely a danger zone.

Anything can do long term damage.  Depends on how it's done.

I personally just ask "what exact behavior is this supposed to be modifying?"

the large graters the side that look like stars that not only hurts but can draw blood after 5 minutes. I know a Jamaican Dom who punishes his girls like that.

I good friend of mine likes to use legos instead of rice. Though has used rice as well.

I've heard pencils are nasty as well.

As with anything, you just need to make sure proper bloodflow is maintained...

Yes it can cause damage if used a lot, for long periods and over time.
Moderation, kids. Knees are for life, they are joints, they have no padding.

Thank you to all that said "MODERATION". Anything over a long period of time can be very harmful.

Brown rice and wild rice... LOL too much. Will have to remember to tell any Dominant who threatens the rice about it..

I never thought about having someone kneeling on rice. How wicked.

Try this for size:

Take uncooked rice (not the instant type) put in a pillow case and warm in the microwave roughly 1-2 mins. Take out of the microwave and gently place the pillowcase w/rice on a freshly spanked ass.  Preform skin checks to insure rice is not causeing superfical burn on your sub(s).   <<grin>>
