There are a lot of good people in the South, just like there are a lot of backwards thinkers in the North. I've never had any problems in the South. Granted,I live in Florida, which some Southerners don't even consider part of the South. You want to see some scary movies about the Northeast, watch some Stephen King movies, lol.

The North certainly has it's fairshare of backwards thinkers, that for dam sure. I did spend sometime in rural Georgia for a time. I never had any issues there. There was one exception where there was a Klan rally near the small town where I was staying. Trust me on this, there are certainly racists in the Northeast too. In some cases, I saw more racism up there than I did down here. There is good people and bad people everywhere.

Where I'm from (the north) Florida is only considered the south for geographical purposes and is referred to as 'the place where northerners go to retire'.

I do LOVE the southern hospitality. People are much more friendlier and laid-back.
People in the north are always rush, rush, rush and leaves you feeling cold.
There are definitely good people from both regions, though.

And I eat my grits with sugar and butter. If that's not right, I'm from the north so I don't know any better!

The singular of 'grit' is no longer a culinary term... 'a grit' is a less than flattering term for a stereotypical redneck.

Really? I gotta say I have never heard this one before.

Hey, according to what Charles said, northerners are backward thinkers. I just don't want to disappoint! [:D]

You know you've become an accepted member of a Southern kink group when the after play party discussion becomes a very serious discussion on the proper way to eat grits. Everybody will tell you the proper way to eat grits. (Their own preference, of course.) It's like a right of passage that says, "you're a yankee, but we like you, anyway".

You also get schooled on what it really means when a Southern gal says "Bless your heart".

Best movie! My fav part is when dude leans te chicken bone in one bite! Lol
Lets see, LP, I eat them with butter, or I'll have some sausage links with syrup on them and the grits. That's the only way I do it. Ooh ooh ooh or with cheese. Mmmmm. Oh wait, or I'll make toast and eat them on the toast. I love em.

I would laugh if someone asked for " a grit" lol.
I always thought Marrisa Tomei had the best lines in the movie. That and the exchange during the trial about the 'two yutes'. Fred Gwynn was funny as hell in the role of the judge.

In my southern judge voice "uh, the two what?"
" ya know, da Yutes"

I just died laughing!

I don't think there's a wrong way to eat grits, they are just good!

Can you get a solo grit then? That's great! I would like to try one, but, I wouldn't want buy many as I might not like them.

LOL The only place I can find that is some on line slang dictionary... that accepts members submissions.

People have grit... people arent grit.

TNDommeK -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/3/2013 7:46:58 PM)

Never heard that Powergamz, I have heard someone say "he has grit". Being from memphis, we have a basketball team...the Grizzlies. And we say that. Grit and grind!

I've seen the "Bless your heart" thrown out a few times around here.
Thankfully, not directed towards me.

If I ever visit the Southern United States' I'll remember that, I wouldn't want to offend anyone [:)].

cordeliasub -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/4/2013 6:35:49 AM)

I guess I'm weird, or maybe I have just read too many novels....

I am not sure who is friendlier, but it seems to me that as far as...manners go, the Brits seem to have that one won. I haven;t encountered near as many Brits was are obnoxious asshats and then justify it by saying "I just tell it like it is" as I have Americans lol. We Americans have, over the last few decades, seemingly come to the conclusion that we should be able to talk to people however we want and too bad i they think we're jerks. Then again, maybe I have watched too much Downton Abbey lol.

Of course, the accent helps. I probably wouldn't mind if someone was an asshat if they did it with an accent......

And to those who have the predictable derogatory anti-south sentiments:

That's nice dear, bless your heart [:D]

So, I lived in the USA for a couple of years, and I would say that all in all it's about the same. The biggest difference is the fairly well known difference in terms of how reserved Brits are compared to yanks. This can be confusing at times, because brits can appear a little stand-offish to Americans, and Americans can appear a little "over familiar" to Brits.

Whilst I can't judge on that one, what I did realise in the past, was, that when I got any insulting comment in regards to my profile pics in the past (with folks which werent on the boards) they were always from people from the UK...somehow it appeared to me that they love trying to insult others with childish comments like "wow, you've got a fat arse..."

But then again...maybe if I'd be living in the US I might have attracted trolls from there on that low level...who knows[;)]

From my own experience I can only say that I was glad when someone told me that the Brits arent as direct as we Germans tend to be...and that they are only direct once they stop bothering about the other persons feelings...that helped me to understand better how to behave on your isle without standing on someone elses foot, when it wasn't meant that way[:D]

theshytype -> RE: Americans friendlier than Brits? (6/4/2013 10:24:17 AM)

Don't worry, if you changed your location to the US, you'd get those messages. Other than my eyes, I don't have any pics of me up. Yet, I have received a few that stated "you're probably fat anyway".

Any German I have met, they have all been nice. With an exception to high school and the German exchange students. They loved laughing at us Americans trying to speak German. Rightfully so, though.

So far, it seems that each nationality believe their own to be the rudest for the most part. Or is it just me?

As a Brit, I have to say that is embarrassing.

Brits are just fine…but God save us from the Canadians…just insufferable…except for one special lovely lady.

Are Americans genuinely friendlier than us Brits?

I might be gun related: when you know that somebody can pull a gun and shoot you, one tends to be friendlier towards other people than when that risk does not exist.
