The same eye of providence that isn't shown inside a pyramid in most of the tattoos and religious art of it you see, you mean?

It isn't inside the pyramid on the seal either. the pyramid is unfinished and the eye is slightly above the top.

Also the guy who made up that stuff about the dollar got his Latin badly wrong.
Annuit Coeptis means "He has favored our undertakings"
Movus ordo seclorum means "New order of the ages"
E Pluribus Unum means "Out of many, one"

It's inside a triangular enclosure floating above the unfinished pyramid: sorry I wasn't clear about that.
As for the other: do you really expect decent Latin from a conspiracy theorist? Most of them can't even manage good English...

FR

From the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia website:

"To solve the mystery of what these symbols mean, we go directly to the source, Charles Thomson, who presented his written description of the Great Seal to Congress on June 20, 1782. .......The reverse of the Great Seal features an unfinished pyramid, which Thomson states signifies "strength and duration." The pyramid is composed of 13 rows of building blocks, on the first of which are the Roman numerals representing 1776. The Latin inscription "Novus Ordo Seclorum" translates to "A New Order of the Ages." Thomson explains that this refers to the new form of government. Influenced by the poetry of Virgil, he composed this motto himself, writing that it signified "the beginning of the new American Era." At the top of the pyramid is an eye, with rays that emanate in all directions. Above the eye, the Latin motto "Annuit Coeptis" translates to "Providence Has Favored Our Undertakings," which Thomson explains "alludes to the many signal interpositions of providence in favor of the American cause.""

So it isn't the eye of providence, then?

Oh, I guess I do consider it to be. I haven't really given it much thought.

I just found it to be an interesting link...Lots of info on the page.

Moonhead -> RE: Could an aetheist do this? (6/2/2013 10:37:57 AM)

Thank you. I'll go have a look at that.
(It'll make a nice change from all these sites with lunatics deconstructing the imagery into a bizarre tirade of nonsense about Jews, Masons and the Illuminati. [;)])

The All Seeing Eye on the dollar is a masonic symbol but it derives from a Christian symbol called the Eye of Providence which is supposed to represent the Christian deity.

Popular among conspiracy theorists is the claim that the Eye of Providence shown atop an unfinished pyramid on the Great Seal of the United States indicates the influence of Freemasonry in the founding of the United States. This was dramatized in the 2004 Disney film National Treasure. However, common Masonic use of the Eye dates to 14 years after the creation of the Great Seal. Furthermore, among the members of the various design committees for the Great Seal, only Benjamin Franklin was a Mason (and his ideas for the seal were not adopted). ~Wikipedia [references infra]

The eye of Providence was just part of the common cultural iconography of the 17th and 18th centuries. Moreover, its placement simply completes the pyramid. There is no actual triangle drawn around the eye on the Great Seal. It is not the Trinitarian symbol.

And cairns were tombs for some other groups, that doesn't make a picture of a rock a religious symbol.

I am unaware of the pyramid having any particular symbolic meaning in Egyptian religion. But, I'm also a little surprised. I thought they'd be going after the "Star of David" that isn't a Star of David.

I was, in fact, referencing the all-seeing eye of Osiris, an Egyptian god.

As far as pyramids being religious symbols ... maybe not entirely but, their kings were entombed beneath them; kind of like modern-day religious having headstones with crosses (or, just crosses, themselves) or Stars of David.

I would have to do some research but, I'm pretty confident that the pyramid represented some importance regarding afterlife.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

ETA: If you can get past the crappy translation, this site will provide some interesting stuff.

Clearly identical. When did you last have your eyes tested?

crazyml -> RE: Could an aetheist do this? (6/2/2013 11:15:57 AM)

You mean that you're unaware that the fed is controlled by an (ironic and rather unlikely) unholy alliance of Jewish people, Masons and Eqyptologists?

Sheesh, where have you been?

Powergamz1 -> RE: Could an aetheist do this? (6/2/2013 11:16:34 AM)

Would that be anything like the all seeing eye of Horus, which looks nothing at all like the eye on the dollar bill, and which wasn't that well known in the West until the 1800s?

I suspect if you talked to fellow church goers even in a liberal church, about your proclivities in BD/SM, I don't think you would get a very positive reaction, which was my point.

Two thoughts:

(a) That may have been your point, but it's not what you said. You made a bigoted, dismissive statement about all "religious people"--billions of whom, not being Judeo-Christian, don't take their moral cues from the Bible. You're no different than someone generalizing disparagingly about "the blacks" or "the Jews."

(b) What reactions do you get when you disclose your BDSM proclivities to nonreligious vanillas?

njlauren is a religious person. You're obvious not talking to someone who thinks that about "all religious people", as you're talking to someone who is religious and doesn't think that about themselves.

Seriously, your position's a turd, a heap of putred bullshit and that should be incredibly obvious to you.

Lucylastic -> RE: Could an aetheist do this? (6/2/2013 11:18:38 AM)

eye of horus, the eye of osiris was a macgyver clusterfuck

Moonhead -> RE: Could an aetheist do this? (6/2/2013 11:23:01 AM)

Well, Osiris was dismembered: maybe Horus inherited his dad's eye?

Except it's not the Eye of Horus.

While it is generally agreed that pyramids were burial monuments, there is continued disagreement on the particular theological principles that might have given rise to them. ~Wikipedia

Some people think the shape represents the spreading rays of the sun, but that remains conjecture.

It appears to be an Egyptian site.

Never mind all of that: the eye of Horus is on the dollar bill how?

Powergamz1 -> RE: Could an aetheist do this? (6/2/2013 11:30:43 AM)

So does that make Grant's tomb a religious symbol?

Lucylastic -> RE: Could an aetheist do this? (6/2/2013 11:31:55 AM)

according to some "mythology", Horus offered it to Osiris.
