Or is Windows 8 completely and utterly keek, crap, shite, pants, rubbish?

I am ready to buck a lot of laptop right out the fucking window.

Nope, it is, and it's practically raining laptops around here.

My daughter (yes I had to get the teenager on the case) downloaded some app thing that stopped all of the weirdy fucking about but it's still going odd when my cursor goes in the wrong places.

I seriously hate it.

I saw my friend with it - neither of us liked it.
He has since dumped it and gone back to Linux.

I've seen reviews about it and nothing was of interest to me whatsoever.
It can't do most of what I am using this PC for or it's a royal PITA to do it.

I find the same with Win7 too.

My steam powered laptop had XP. It was nice and warm and cuddly and did not do weirdy things when I put the cursor in the top or the bottom or the corners or fucking anything.

The child downloaded some thing to stop it and it stop most of the shite and gave me a start button that functioned like an old start button but it's still weird and I don't like it. At all.

Just talked to my Dad yesterday who had gotten a new laptop with it, he detests it.

I still have XP. I will not download anything else unless forced to at gunpoint.

And even then they'd have to shoot me in both knees before I'd hand over the mouse.

I had to get a new laptop. The new ones don't come with XP. The only option was Windows 8. I really really am not a fan.

It's not you at all, but I've never been a fan of Windows.

I have never been more grateful to have my MacBook Pro. I know it isn't for everyone, but it works for my graphic design and I don't have to deal with the Windows drama...

According to the computer mags, a whole lot of people have been having problems using Windows 8. I figured there was some kind of problem when Best Buy had a guy from Microsoft come in to teach people how to do excruciatingly basic stuff.

Windows 8 is really supposed to be used with a touchpad, so using it with anything else, and I mean anything, gets it wonky. If you don't want to invest in one of those (and most people don't, honestly), you can try updating your drivers first and see if that works. Worse case, you can reinstall windows and start over again

This, I suspect, is the story of Win8's new user interface. Breaking down the OS a bit my impression is that the back-end is strong. It probably has decent security against everyone but the US government. It should mostly work. It is also the same old bloatware that's gone before. The front-end is brand new and as is always true when you change the UI people get grumpy. IT remains to be seen in my mind whether people will adopt the new UI or not. I personally have no intention of upgrading my Win7 system. If I bought a new Win8 laptop I'd probably just cope with it as is although I might replace Win8 with some *nix build.

I can see how it would work well on a tablet but it so does not work on a laptop with a keyboard.

If I ever bought a new PC and it came with Win8 (or Win7), I'd hunt around and find drivers for the chips inside the machine and re-install XP Pro on it.
It wouldn't be the first time I've done that with machines that have never had XP on them.

Hubby has it on his laptop, I've attempted to burn it and stomp it several times.

If you ever mention any Windows operating system and Linux in the same breath, no one will take you seriously. Only one of them is a real operating system while the other one is a pile of unstable shit created for suckers so people too stupid to use a real computer can feel better about themselves.

Since Gates left, Micro$oft has only had two kinds of operating systems:

1. Pieces of shit.
2. Unexciting but usable systems to woo back customers pissed off about the POS's.

Steve Ballmer doesn't impress me.
