Have you ever wondered whether the money you spend ends up funding causes you oppose?
I just ran across this, thought is was a good idea, especially for products, etc you spend your money on.. thought people here would be also interested & use it.. especially those against GMO, child labor, etc.. it will help you know if you are sending your money to support foes or friends.. I would still do your own reseach but this could eliminate a lot of that..
If anyone already uses this, your insights and comments?

Buycott is a tool that lets you organize your consumer spending to help causes that you care for, and to oppose those that you don't.
When you use Buycott to scan a product, it will look up the product, determine what brand it belongs to, and figure out what company owns that brand (and who owns that company, ad infinitum). It will then cross-check the product owners against the companies and brands included in the campaigns you've joined, in order to tell you if the scanned product conflicts with one of your campaign commitments.

before I give money to charities I always do my research first. I go online, check tax records, etc...so I can see exactly where my money is going.

It's one of the reasons I don't give to charities persay anymore. I instead give my time and items instead of money.

It looks like this app goes beyond checking the charities themselves. If, for example, you were strongly against animal testing you would list that on your app, then scan something you wanted to buy and it would check not only that company but it's parent companies and sister brands to see if any of them are associated with animal testing, allowing you to boycott the whole company.

I would have loved this ten years ago as a teenager, when I had a list of 'causes' as long as your arm, it was so hard to figure out which brands were 'safe'.

yeah I guess it's good for those people, especially those who are young who still have those idealistic thoughts. I used to be one of those. But I'm older now and just don't really care anymore to be honest. If it's something I like, I buy it.
