For me, it's strictly a time management issue. I have a finite amount of time during which I am awake. I wish to maximize the utility of that time (that, optimize the amount of enjoyment I can get from every moment). If I am spending time reading a profile of someone who does not actually exists, and then crafting a message to send to that person, this is a portion of my life that has been wasted. (NOT the same as communicating with someone and discovering we're not compatible-- that's not a waste, it's just time invested.) On this site, the vast (VAST) majority of profiles I have looked at (women) have been fake-- specifically, scams/ads for webcams. Not profiles of people who want to meet other people. This is annoying. And frequent. Other sites have this problem, too, but (from where I sit) with a fraction of the frequency. I have met (in person) over a dozen people from FL and OKC, and more than half of those became lovers/play partners...while none (that's zero) of the contacts from CM have even resulted in a single initial meetup. I don't know what this means in terms of causation or format or whatever...but it is a data point.

It is my experience that a lot of people generally lie. If they can do it to my face,I am not surprised that there are people that can do it behind a computer.

Fakes make it harder on everyone to find genuine. And then we all get a double deficit of distrusting others to be genuine. and on and on.
