I find this entire thing to be as much a set back for race relations as what Paula said.

Is it just me or is this woman a cunt and a half.

Wendy Williams

Actually, I agree with everything she said except that Deens' kids should be blamed for letting Mom speak for herself.

If you want to see some actual abuse, check this out:

You wake with a w-wicked hangover. One the one side is a window. It's open. On the other side is the door. And your clothes. And :

Fortunately she's asleep, but you'll have to crawl over her to get to the door. That might wake her.

What do you do?

littlewonder -> RE: Paula oh Paula! (6/25/2013 8:09:16 PM)

crawl under the bed to get to the other side....

or jump and run like hell!

absolutchocolat -> RE: Paula oh Paula! (6/25/2013 8:40:00 PM)

Her teeth are creepy. Too white and too big for her face. *shudders*

littlewonder -> RE: Paula oh Paula! (6/25/2013 8:45:22 PM)

I'm guessing she has veneers like every celebrity. Ever notice almost all celebrities have teeth that are too big and too white? Veneers.

absolutchocolat -> RE: Paula oh Paula! (6/25/2013 8:52:39 PM)

Yeah, her and Garey Busey have that whole Chiclets look goin' on.

http://afroculinaria.com/2013/06/25/an-open-letter-to-paula-deen/

I post this not to stir the pot, but because it says my thoughts in many ways, better than I can.

I have never been anything but a female from the south. I am 51 and have seen change in so many things, especially attitudes about different cultures and races.

No matter how hard I try, I can not be surprised or upset that Paula admitted to the things she admitted to. It is not shocking to me, it is pretty much to be expected, being from Georgia.

I think of things I said in the past that now I realize were horrible, but when I said them, it was not out of hatred for anyone, it was just because it was there to say.

When the city of Atlanta was having dead children found in the Chattahoochee River back in the early 80's, that river was called the "Chunkanigger River" by many, my self included. I cried for the families that lost their kids too, the faces of those babies lost made me sick, even back then.

Am I proud of using that word? No. Does the fact that I said that 30 years ago make me any less the fighter for rights of everyone that I am today? No.

My son has never ever had a g/f who was white. Part of the reason my marriage broke up was because I would not stand beside my husband and tell my son he had no business dating a nigger. I tried to explain to my ex that he was being a moron, but, he stood fast and would not change. I find it funny in a not haha way that his daughter from a previous marriage just celebrated her 20th anniversary with her black husband, she has 2 kids that me ex now seems to adore, and the daughter of his son from a that same marriage is now engaged to a wonderful black man.

Whether he liked it or not, change of his attitude was forced upon him. That, or lose his family.

All this typing may make some angry here, and we are having discussions about this on Facebook also. It has in fact, caused me to delete a couple of folks as friends there, because while I can forgive ignorance, I can not forgive someone who refuses to learn.

Anyhow, I hope that eventually good will come out of this mess, for Paula and for all of us.

The end for now.

Here are the highlights:

QVC and Kmart, which both sell Deen-branded homewares, are allegedly "reviewing their options." QVC issued a statement on Paula Deen that said the company has "no immediate plans to have her appear on QVC."

Kraft said it hadn't worked with Deen in over a year, and that it has no current business relationship with her.

Novo Nordisk, which manufactures the diabetes drug (Victoza) that Deen endorses, says that it has no plans to drop Deen.

Smithfield Hams, which has a longstanding partnership with Deen, did not respond to requests for comment from CBS This Morning.

UPDATE: Moments after publishing this piece, Smithfield Foods announced that it was terminating its relationship with Paula Deen. The CEO of the company issued the following statement to Eater by email:

"Smithfield condemns the use of offensive and discriminatory language and behavior of any kind. Therefore, we are terminating our partnership with Paula Deen. Smithfield is determined to be an ethical food industry leader and it is important that our values and those of our spokespeople are properly aligned."

What choice do they really have? I dont expect her to return to QVC for a long time.

Want to fire someone for using the N word?

FINE.

Fire EVERYONE who has ever used it and forbid its use from here on out in all media.

Duskypearls -> RE: Paula oh Paula! (6/26/2013 7:52:45 AM)

I do not like idea of businesses, who've used her for endorsement and made beau coup bucks off of her, to drop her like a sack of potatoes, nor what the press has done to her.

If she's made a mistake or social faux pas, regardless of the size, correct her and let her know what's at stake if she does not re-educate herself.

I see no need to rake her over the coals and destroy her life and career.

I personally don't care for her style, but apparently millions do.

Enough with this witch hunting stuff.

tazzygirl -> RE: Paula oh Paula! (6/26/2013 7:54:59 AM)

Businesses are there to make money. She is contracted for her work, as well as her public image. I have no doubt there is a clause which allows them out of that contract.. such as a morals clause. They are standard now. She should have known this would happen. When one becomes a public figure, their life, even in private, shouldnt be considered "off limits" because they never know who may turn on them.

Wouldnt that all depend on the clauses in their contracts?

Duskypearls -> RE: Paula oh Paula! (6/26/2013 8:16:23 AM)

Tazz, I understand the contract end of it, which gives them the legal out, which they have the right to do.

Is it the best thing to do in this situation? I'm not so sure.

ALL humans screw up, again and again, regarding one thing or another. This life is a learning process. I wonder how PC the heads of the big companies that endorse her are behind closed doors. Could probably raise more than a few eyebrows, no doubt.

So she's a public figure, and many will rant, "Well, then she's to be held to a higher standard!" I disagree, think that BS. If the public puts her up on a pedestal, she's still human, and the size of the "fall," in the public's eye's will be in direct proportion to how they've inflated/distorted her.

I'm not proud of what she's said/done, and I'm not proud of the businesses reactions, but it all seems kind of neanderthalish to me. It helps no one.

Has anything she' said/done destroyed anyone's life/career.? How is it a good, or appropriate, thing to do to her? I think it's a HUGE over reaction.

Lawd, we humans see ourselves, and claim to be, so bloody evolved. I'm not seeing it here. She's made some mistakes, big deal, are they unforgivable?

Why does somebody's head always have to end up on a stick?

Good luck with that one. The rap music industry makes billions off of that word. When someone like, say, Bill Cosby, calls them on it, they hit auto-reply and say "It's part of the culture!". It's still wrong, but as long as some music execs can keep buying gold-plated toilets, it'll be okay.

Problem is the businesses are not making those comments publicly. Let a CEO make that comment and watch how soon his walking papers come. Moral clauses are nothing new. Many are held to a higher standard than John Q Public because they are endorsing a product. Hurt the image, hurt the bottom line.

It depends on the CEO. http://www.cashmoney-records.com/#!All

If you're going to fire someone for using the word, fire everyone who has used it.

It's an evil word. Ban it from everything.

Make every state an employment at will state and fire em all. Damn the contracts.

tazzygirl -> RE: Paula oh Paula! (6/26/2013 9:01:36 AM)

Contracts are different than straight employment.

I disagree with this statement.
Words are not evil.
Words only have the power that people give them.

The moment we start banning words or language it becomes a VERY slippery slope IMO.

How would you deal with banned words in stories, poetry, history, or things of that nature?

How would you stop the government from banning other words they deemed unacceptable? Once that precedent is set. YIKES!

Can we have it both ways?
Is a certain behavior OK for one person and not another?

It seems to be that way.

Sorry taz. If something is illegal, it doesn't matter what the contract says.
A contract based on something that is illegal is considered a 'void contract'.
