tazzygirl -> A place to mourn the passing of DOMA (6/27/2013 11:26:44 AM)

SatinWhip asked the following on another thread.

Having said that, I am also for equality on all fronts. If someone started a thread to mourn the passing of the DOMA would you just as purposely protect it?

So, here you are...

VideoAdminRho -> RE: A place to mourn the passing of DOMA (6/27/2013 11:30:03 AM)

I have purposely kept this out of the P&R forum as a place for those who wish to mourn DOMA, to do so.

Hillwilliam -> RE: A place to mourn the passing of DOMA (6/27/2013 11:49:53 AM)

I'll mourn the passing of DOMA as much as I'll mourn Fred Phelps when that piece of human excrement finally goes to hell.

calamitysandra -> RE: A place to mourn the passing of DOMA (6/27/2013 12:53:47 PM)

Oh, I mourn the passing of Doma all right. I mourn the legislators passing it into law. [;)]

DomKen -> RE: A place to mourn the passing of DOMA (6/27/2013 1:09:34 PM)

Where are the delicious tears? The thread title promised tears!.

While DOMA was bad law, that doesn't mean that some of us don't believe marriage is between one man/one woman.

I'm just of the belief that the government should get out of the marriage business and allow anyone to get into a domestic partnership with anyone,as long as everyone is over the age of 18. I should be able to live with my niece and put her on my health insurance if I so choose. I don't think my niece and nephew should have to pay estate taxes for inheriting a portion of my mother's estate when she passes. She's already paid taxes on her home, it shouldn't be taxed yet again for her to give a portion of it to someone after death.

You must find your job very weird at times, Rho.

They won't unless your mother is very wealthy. At present the first $5.25 million is tax exempt.

Not necessarily true. My sister and I wouldn't pay, but they would. My great-aunt passed away a few years ago with no children. We had to pay taxes on the inheritance.

You might have paid state estate tax but the federal estate tax has a high exemption no matter who inherits. I, and my entire family, inherited a sizeable sum from a great uncle back in the late 90's and paid not a penny in taxes.

New Jersey has both a state estate tax and an inheritance tax so that is more than likely what got you.

I don't know about mourning the repeal of DOMA but I am worried... Rush says, and I always believe what rush says...that because of the DOMA repeal the next step will most certainly be a drive to legalize pedophilia...You know he said... remember the feeling you had the first time you heard about same sex marriage... you thought it would never happen... will pedophilia is next.

Not the exact words but I am soooo worried I may have slightly misquoted... So be sure to check out his Monday's show so we can fight this new attack on our Christian values.

At least he was original. The usual bogeymen are polygamy and incest.

Pedophilia is a pretty standard claim as well. The bigots trot it out when they want to ban homosexuals from jobs like teaching.

Lucylastic -> RE: A place to mourn the passing of DOMA (6/27/2013 5:43:44 PM)

dont forget beastiality!!!!
wouldnt they have to repeal the bigamy law first?
Id love to hear from someone who is actually impacted by this law, and what it denies them>?

As the old joke says, the best penalty for bigamy is having two mothers-in-law.

I've heard it in that context but not in the marriage debate. Then again, I may have tuned it out. [:)]

I find it amusing the same cretins against gay marriage are not screaming for the end of divorce.

But some were! A group last year tried in California to ban or restrict divorce. It died away quickly but the attempt was made.
