A friend posted this on Facebook, and I liked it enough to recycle: What's the worst/dumbest/most obvious thing you've ever failed to pack for a trip?

One from yours truly to get things rolling: Plum pudding (using my great-grandmother's recipe) is a family Christmas tradition that I decided to take up some years back. It's a challenge tracking down exotic ingredients, stirring the goop for a month, and steaming each pudding for six or so hours. I did it all with gusto and pride, then headed north for the big day. Someone around Baltimore, I realized I'd left the damn thing in the kitchen. I had, however, remembered the ribbon I'd bought to adorn it! Sigh.

The worst had to be lack of long underwear, good gloves, and hat when going to Guttenberg, IA where it was, no kidding, negative twenty-two degrees. During the day. I got some new winter things that year. I live in Kansas, and it is not like it does not get COLD here. However, not that cold. I also forgot my scarf when going to Minneapolis, MN where it was only negative fifteen. Usually it is just my jammies that I forget. And that can be easily dealt with.

I went hunting one year packed all my gear extra shells and made sure the shells went into the glove box 3 days before . I got to camp with my friends and brother in law opened up my gun case and remembered it was still at the shop being cleaned and reblued .

I was headed to hubby's parents for Christmas one year. We had gifts for everyone..his sister and brothers, mom and step dad, even some other kids his mom takes care of. But, we left his granny's gift. Not sure how it happened. She wanted a gold cross for church, so we got it. But somehow walked right out of the door. How it wasn't with the other gifts is beyond me. We stopped at the mall upon arrival in town. She got the cross, I just have her original one,lol.

When I was in the reserves, I had to pack up for our annual training (no, do NOT call it 'summer camp'). I had two duffel bags issued, and I bought a third at the PX for my own use. I used it for mundane stuff, laundry, camping, occasionally stuffing a play partner inside, etc...Anyway, I thought I was all ready. Bag #1 had all my field gear (LBE, helmet, mask, etc), and Bag#2 had my uniforms, underwear, shaving gear, etc. We're loading up the trucks for a 300 mile road march and I go into bag #2 for something and I discover that I'd taken all my dirty civilian laundry instead. I was lucky in that my chief was pretty cool about it, and let me go back home to get the right bag. The ironic thing of it was, I tried to be prepared ahead of time, instead of jamming stuff in at the last minute like I'd done the year before. The next year I purposely held off on packing until the night before AND I marked "my" duffel bag in a way I wouldn't get mixed up again.
