Master is new to the lifestyle we both have much interst in canes ...is there a good place or way to practice and learn the fine art of caning?...where does One go to learn something like this ? it always puzzles me how you learn without hurting someone while practicing

When beginning, I strongly recommend rattan canes, lots of people buy bamboo tomato stakes, my concern about those is breakage and fine bamboo slivers imbedding in painful places. When rattan breaks, it snaps without sending out slivers.

I suggest having the Dom tuck a slippery magazine under his elbow and cane from the wrist, not with the whole arm. If the magazine drops, I end the session. It is one of the methods of play that gets great results with very little effort on the part of the Dom. Keep the cane level, avoid the tip of the tailbone as it can shatter, stay on the meaty part of the rounded ass, under the cheeks and the thighs. Don't strike over existing marks or bruises. The man who taught me had me give him levels on a scale of 1 to 10, he would strike and get me to say how intense it was 10 = red. I try to play around the 6-8 range. Each person is different & their levels are different. Another method after establishing levels is to have the sub ask for more "Thank you Sir, may I have one more please Sir?" That way the sub has time to process the pain. The Dom can also have the sub count the strokes, listening for signs of strain in her voice. It is best to stop the caning with the sub wanting more as there is an afterglow that happens later. If she wants more after the afterglow, go for it.

If there are BDSM groups in your area, they may give seminars on different skills.

What do you mean by 'processing the pain'? As in being able to determine where along the green-yellow-red continuum the pain is at?

I love crops ... they're deliciously evil .... but after a certain period of time, the pain turns into a warm feeling of pleasure that puts me into orbit. Counting the strokes or asking for another would seem to ruin the moment. Most Dommes I've been with seem to take pleasure in getting me there.

mmmm caning... my favorite thing in the whole wide world. it is definately an art to do it correctly. you can also look up caning and Victorian style discipline as a pair of ideas. my gf/slave and i have daily caning sessions. she has been trained to love taking them, and hardly marks at all anymore. she tells me that nothing feels as good as the cane on her bottom. it is natural- it is sharp, acute pain with a nice stingy after effect. makes you all warm inside. :)

anyways, i am attaching a pic of a girl i caned once who marked very very very much. this is rare, in my opinion. typically you will have red marks, welts, and bruising upon contact if it is done very hard. it is untypical to break the skin upon contact.

make sure to present the strokes even, leaving the cane on the skin momentarily once you strike the bottom then lift it up, pause for a few seconds, then continue with the next stroke. always strike the bottom with parallel strokes, making sure not to cross the markings over one another, since this can causing skin breaks and deep bruising. also, the Victorians practiced giving out strokes in sets of 6. so you can give them 6, 12, 18, 24, etc, as long as it is in factors of 6.

it is also a good idea to spray on rubbing alcohol after a session with the cane (or any device that causes red welts on the skin) to help sanitize and to cool the surface of the skin. do not use rubbing alcohol on skin that has been cut or is bleeding, as it will sting like crazy!!!

also, is the area seems sore, you can massage the other parts of the non-marked skin to help ease the pain.
