I know more subs read here, and I'm reflecting on my femdom youth as well. I know that I was earliest attracted to androgynous men and I think many crossdressers and sissies I meet now in my age group were probably also deeply affected by fashion and music because of when we group up. I'm really reminded of this as I'm reading John Taylor's autobiography In the Pleasure Groove (bassist from Duran Duran - my first femdom boy band crush and fantasy beyond adam west as batman)

When my sexuality was blossoming (the hormones only NOT the acts, mods) boys were wearing makeup. Well, some of them. And they were teased RELENTLESSLY. They wore eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipstick, lipgloss. Some wore skirts and stockings too. They were new romantics and goths. You can see them in shows like "My So Called Life." My attractions were clearly imprinted by these types.

Adam Ant's song and video for Prince Charming sums it up. Unfortunately the real video has been taken down but you can see his "looks and styles" with the song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aLyWGgC8tU
The lyric:
"Ridicule is nothing to be scared of
Don't you ever, don't you ever
Stop being dandy, showing me you're handsome."
That kind of summed it up, and John Taylor talks about it a lot in his book. They were really bullied as kids for being different but they did it anyway. I wonder how much this impacted their sexual identity?

I know a lot of grown men now around my age (in between 40 and 60, lets's say) were either dabbling in crossdressing, were aware of it (saw others doing it in school) and then what happened? Did you get bullied? Did girls reject you? Did you do it in private? Did you just ignore the urges? Or did the urges come later? Did you participate? Were you a new romantic or a goth? Were you never aware of this scene at all?

When I went to college the New Romantic stuff was going out of style but I still loved men in make up. In alternative clubs more like industrial and whatnot, the alternative kids were still doing heavy eyemake up but with a more industrial edge and the skirts and stockings were still in, but more ripped and torn. Lipstick was moving out. I would date guys and still like them to wear stockings and panties but it had morphed into more of a humiliation and thing for a reaction. But what had not changed is that I simply like "pretty" on men. I like nice cheekbones (thank you, John Taylor) and the feeling of lip gloss on lips (thanks to kissing a lot of boys in lipstick - this is the kind of guy I liked when I was young) and I become attracted to pretty boys and innocent faces. Now as an adult this has translated into less traditional "manly GQ good looks and jocks (although my interest in hockey has adjusted that a bit) and more shy/introvertedgeek chic looks - but definitely leaning toward androgynous.

I wrote an article about it and it resides for free on my site if anyone would like to read more. [mod edit to remove link]

I'd really like to know, though, where subs first found their interest in wearing make up, and where femdoms found their interest in men in makeup and if there's had anything to do with the 80s. I also highly recommend John's book. Oh, and Adam Ant is touring now.

Akasha,

When I was a younger teen, still growing into puberty, I was at camp and was playing with some older girls. It was all in good fun and they wanted to put make up on me and some of the other boys, this was when I was starting to crush on girls and I had a crush on one of the older ones. So next thing you know I'm in make up and it was fun and silly, and I enjoyed it.

I like some femme play, but wouldn't call myself a "sissy" I think for me it was about the attention and even now the interesting feelings that accompany it.
