There are people who dont even have birth certificates.

What bearing does your grandmother have on them?

So you are saying they need a birth certificate first. Yes. I agree. That would be the responsible thing to do.

As to voter fraud, I think what worries me more is not so much who is casting the votes but who is counting them. I remember a few years back we had a local election for an increase in sales tax for road construction and other city projects. The voters have routinely voted against increases in sales taxes each time it's been proposed in the past, but this time, the measure actually passed. Several months later, allegations came out that there may have been some hocus pocus done with the computer program which tabulates and counts all the votes. Apparently, all the "No" votes were switched to "Yes" and vice versa. It got a bit complicated when some officials wanted to analyze the software code of the company that designed the software used in the computer program. The software company balked against that, and it was tied up in court for a while.

I don't think anything was ever definitively proven, and the election results stood. Still, that whole episode made me wonder about the way votes are tabulated by computer and the possibility of someone "hacking" an election.

oh and by the way, when Democrats fail to count military votes that get sent back slowly through military post or because ballots dont get sent out timely, or just because military tend to vote conservative, i suppose that's just ducky.

When thousands of write in ballots are found in Washington state, in closets, and garages, the trunks of cars, all democrat votes, they should apply to the election. Keep finding and counting until the Republicans are behind.

And when Acorn registers "voters" in multiple districts, and then busses them around so they can vote multiple times in places like Ohio, thats just great, lets send them some more money for their good service.

You are kidding yourself if you think that there is not vote fraud in most states. Every state that i have seen enact voter id laws, also go to great lengths to help thier citizens get free, legal id's that are suitable. the goal is one person, one vote, and you should at least be alive and breathing.

Two questions:

(a) Got any sources for all of this, or are we meant to take your word for it?

North Carolina is set to be the state with the most restrictive Voting ID laws on the book. More strict than buying a gun in Chicago! The Governor signed into law a bill that basically reduces/removes voting liberties from its citizens all due to the boogie man known as 'Voter Fraud'. Of course, if any 'intelligent' and 'wise' conservatives in that state actually looked up the concept, they would find Republicans are as usual....LYING....to push tyranny down other people's throats. Glad I don't live in that bigoted, ignorant, and lame state!

An of course, this law will cost the taxpayers of NC quite a bundle of money in court costs before being torn down.

And I'm glad I no longer live in that bigoted, ignorant, corrupt and lame state of Massachusetts ("Vote early and vote often"-James Michael Curly) who elects Fake "Indians" to the senate and gives "EBT" cards to Illegal Aliens.
Try and use a "college I.D." to get into a bar, they only accept D.L.s, state issued I.D.s and military I.D.s and U.S. passports.
They had so many fake college I.D. cards in the 70's and 80's that guys were putting "Whatsa Matter U" on them for a joke and they were being accepted!
We (all of us!) should welcome anything that protects the sanctity and integrity of our elections, i.e. Massachusetts should be just as strict as North Carolina.

Voter registration fraud isnt the same issue. And something both sides have been guilty of. If someone signs the form "Mickey Mouse" it has to be sent in. Does that mean you actually believe someone will show up and vote as Mickey Mouse?

Now, do be good and show us a law that requires an ID to vote by absentee ballot, which is where the majority of voter fraud occurs.

You will notice no one mentioned the cost of ID's because we all know the states are paying for those. Now, who is paying for the cost of obtaining a birth certificate? Who is paying for the cost of actually filing for the first time and getting a birth certificate? Who is paying the travel expenses, be it by car, bus van, ect? The time on the phones, the costs of submitting forms?

There are expenses associated for many who do not posses the "legal" form of ID the states are now insisting upon.

If you cant acknowledge that, you are only kidding yourself.

Thats what they will have you believe. They are "chipping in" for the cost of a piece of plastic that possibly only costs them pennies on the dollar to make.

Actually every state that has enacted the right wing voter ID vote suppression laws has done the absolute minimum to avoid running afoul of the 24th amendment. Texas is the worst example due to the criminal shortage of driver's license facilities and the lack of other options for valid ID.

let me see if I fully understand the anti voter ID people's argument correctly

since voter fraud is by percentage so LOW, its NO BIG DEAL
but if a tiny percentage of people are INCONVIENIENCED, that IS a BIG DEAL...

as for it being a tiny percentage of people commiting fraud, well one could make the argument that EVERY CRIME, is a tiny percentage when compared to the grand sceme of things

of all crimes commited, I am betting MURDER, is a very very tiny percentage, but I don't hear anyone saying we shouldn't take precautions to prevent it, or any number of other crimes that are taken VERY SERIOUSLY!

I mean REALLY, dems don't seem to have ANY PROBLEM, with INCONVIENCING some people when it comes to GUNS, another CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT, but SOME people MIGHT be inconvienienced by having to get an ID and WHOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAA well now thats a BIG DEAL!

can you say HYPOCRITICAL????

fact is the left has NO PROBLEM inconviencing people so long as its regarding an ISSUE they LIKE!

if you told the people that as few as 50 murders would be prevented or 50 less fatalities would occur due to drunk driving nation wide , but in order to make that happen, .06% of the population would have to be INCONVIENIENCED, people would say SO WHAT? DO IT!

you claim people who want voter ID's are making a mountian out of a MOLE HILL, but your MAIN ARGUMENT is to make a mountian out of a mole hill!

if I have to pick WHICH mole hill I want prevented I say lets stop as MUCH voter fraud as we possibly can!

So since you are a tiny percentage of the population you are ok with deing disenfranchised for no reason. Are you sure that is the position you really want to take?

I might almost agree with you... almost... had I not seen so many cases of one or the other party using "voter fraud" as a method for disenfranchising voters. And yes, it is my perception in this case that the Republicans do this more than the democrats. I still maintain the whole thing PALES in comparison to gerrymandering which both parties do without regret.

yes I am sure about my position, I have moved around the country a lil bit, and have had been INCONENIENCED by it MANY TIMES, for instance when I returned to missouri this last time I went to renew my DL and was told I had to take care of a PARKING TICKET in wisconsin , get a release from them, PAY ALL SORTS of REINSTAMENT FEES, before I could renew my missouri DL
I had returned to st louis in a beat to death old van, with ONE SUITCASE, no tools and no job! BTW I am a plumber so DRIVING is REQUIRED for me to make a living!

but guess what, I needed to DRIVE so I took care of it, yes it was INCONVIENIENT...

the left has NO PROBLEM with "disinfrancising people" as you call it, when its an ISSUE THEY LIKE!

fact is, if the constitution were taken LITERALLY, it says I have a RIGHT to own ANY MILITARY weapon I can afford to buy! but politicians on both side don't have ANY problem with restricting that right!

lets look at this lil bit of history

prohibition!

the politicians made a law saying NO LIQUER PERIOD, the people said FUCK THAT and an armed resistance broke out, the people took up arms and said to the gov't NO WAYYYY!
it shocked the gov't that regular people armed with the SAME WEAPONRY as was available to the police and miltary stood up to them and FORCED then to repeal this law

what did they do next, welllllllllll they OUTLAWED ANY weapon that put the american people on equal footing with thier forces.

at that MOMENT. the INTENT of right to bear arms was effectivly ERASED!
the ability of the american people to stand up and go toe to toe with tbe gov't and have a fighting chance was GONE!
